The heart of my mastering chain is comprised of four custom pieces built by the great Frank Lacy of JFL Audio and Lucas Engineering fame.
•
The first photo shows the Allshelf EQ - 8-bands of shelving (4 low, 4 high) with overlapping corner frequencies. Amazing for overall tone shaping and sweet-yet-transparent shelving.
•
Second photo shows the Barry Porter EQ. The Cap Def Level k**b allows for bypassing various portions of filter caps, with “3” being fully bypassed!
•
The fourth photo shows a mastering version of the Lucas Limiter - based off of the venerable UA175, this is imho the perfect mastering tube limiter.
•
And also in the fourth photo (and last in my chain for good reason), the Davelizer EQ - a 3-band, all peaking Bax. This is the most musical finishing EQ I’ve ever heard. Brings the highs to the sky and the lows to the floor, with unrivaled smooth and tangible mid energy and presence.

All of these are powered by remote PSUs.

from Cleft Music] … Today is the official reissued release of the album that started this whole thing- our parent label and parent parent, Loney Hutchins and his 1979 blazing country rocker, ‘Appalachia.’ Fire up this album, roll the windows down and cruise down a country road. This one’s a banger. 28 mins of pure 70s hi-fi country rock.

Pick up a copy on vinyl or CD, locally in Nashville at Grimey’s or The Groove, or click the bio link to stream on all platforms.

This record was cut in 1979 by Jack “Stack-a-Track” Grochmal at Lee Hazen’s Studio by the Pond, with star session players and Dolly Parton’s Jolene-era rhythm section, during a time where its sound was too rock for Nashville, and too country for L.A.

‘Appalachia’ is back, with 10 country-rock songs revived directly from 2” 24-track tapes, remastered by and reissued by .
