I've been fortunate enough to have delivered funeral services for many wonderful people and recently there's been a couple of really interesting characters.
Families often send messages of thanks, so today I'm including two cards I've received recently, from the families of the characters I have mentioned, which contained such lovely comments, as well as a wonderful token of appreciation, which will be enjoyed in due course.

'Thank you for all you did for us as a family, during a very difficult time. Your professional input, along with your friendly nature, were a real help in our grieving process.
On the day itself your tribute was excellent throughout and exceeded all of our expectations. A family friend commented afterwards, that despite being a solemn occasion, it actually felt like a good afternoon.
The fine detail and research that you added to the the tribute were unexpected and sparked numerous lovely conversations at the teas.
It also led to many people asking how you knew my dad? Which is a testament to you'.

'Just a wee appreciation for the wonderful service of thanksgiving for dads life. So many people have commented on what a lovely service it was'.

Delivering a funeral service, a tribute or a eulogy, there are many ways of putting it, is such a lovely thing to do for someone else and it’s always interesting hearing the stories and sometimes the links or similarities, to my own story.

For now, here’s another few messages I’ve had recently, thanking me for describing someone’s life in a way that captures who they really were and giving the family some comfort along the way.

‘Hi Ronnie just a wee note to thank you for my ma’s service on Friday it was spot on, quite a few people attending spoke highly of the service.’

‘Thank you so much for the fantastic service today for my best friend. You did an absolutely fantastic job and everyone there thought so. Brought laughter and tears ....as life should!’

‘My brother and I would like to thank you again for the lovely service you did for our dad everything was spot on xx.’

Towards the end of last year, I had the pleasure of leading a Tribute for a local businessman who had previously been a publican, and there were so many great stories and memories to share, I merely scratched the surface of this man's life.

Afterwards, his wife sent me this wonderful message.

'Just a note to thank you for the comforting service that you gave us at 'my husbands' celebration of life. There were a lot of tears and laughter and many comments about the service which people really enjoyed because it was different. One lady said it was the first funeral she'd been at that she felt like dancing. Once again thank you for giving him the send off he desired.'

In December I led a service for a man who was much loved as a father, grandfather, and he really was a family man. He worked in the Prison Service for many years, he had a real interest in history, especially his own family history, and he enjoyed many happy years of retirement.

This really was a celebration of life, as we remembered everything this man had achieved both personally and professionally, while including some light hearted memories along the way.

Afterwards while still dealing with their loss, the family gave me this lovely card and inside they wrote,

'Thank you for all you said on behalf of the family, it meant a lot to us'.
