“Miniaturisation”, “monumentality”, and “collectibles” are employed not as rhetorical devices, but three distinct “cognitive scales” and “practical strategies”of perception.

Terrain & Radiance
Artist: Chen Zhiguang
Curator: Liang Kegang
June 20 – July 20, 2026

Tong Gallery+projects is pleased to announce the solo exhibition “Terrain & Radiance” by artist Chen Zhiguang. This exhibition focuses on the artist’s output over the past three years and marks the debut of his “Radiance Accumulation” series. For Chen Zhiguang, stainless steel has long been the most significant rhetorical material of his career. In this new body of work, he strips it of its utilitarian attributes and translates it onto two-dimensional canvases, where it yields topographical landscapes transformed through visual distortion. The result establishes a symbiotic connection between painting and sculpture, abstract forms and realistic imagery.

Spotlight of the day: Lv Huiyao ( ) ‘s “8” and “Cold Plate” from “The Frank and the Silent: A Fabel”.

“8” and “Cold Plate” seemingly operate as sequential steps within a progressive process: the 8-ball is the final stage in a game of billiards, unlocked only after all preceding levels are cleared, yet the success or failure of the entire game hinges upon it; a cold platter is the very first dish in a Western dining sequence designed to awaken the appetite, yet the quality of the main course can often be discerned from this initial bite.

Spotlight of the day from our current group show: “Boy” by Shan Yuhan ()

“The face is shattered by blocks of color, blurred, with flowing brushstrokes that resemble tears streaming down the countenance, conveying a sense of dazed trance. The image reveals a deeply buried sensitivity and pain within, directly confronting inner confusion and vulnerability—it is an internal monologue of deep self-examination.” - From the artist
