The tea base for this Princess Orchid tea we present is a green tea called Mengding Ganou.
This greentea comes from the Mengding Mountains in Ya'an, Sichuan province, which has been firmly established as a first-class tea producing area in China from the Tang Dynasty until today. The excellent quality of the tea leaves and the first-class tea-making process have together made Mengding Nectar.
Mengding Nectar has several characteristics.
The first is that no chemical pesticides are used. A solution made by pounding the leaves of Chinese Ash and adding water is used to repel insects. The time taken to wash the tea leaves after picking is shortened to ensure that the natural fuzz behind the leaves continues to adhere to the tea leaves, resulting in a lovely white fluffy tea.
The second is the use of traditional iron pots and firewood for frying by hand. The tea produced by this method is very different in aroma from that made by machines, and tea drinkers can easily distinguish it by the aroma of the tea broth.
Thirdly, there are very strict requirements for the shape of the tea leaves, which when steeped in hot water, each one needs to take on a lovely clover shape.
This tea is very elegant and soft, and can be delicately balanced with the aromas of cold and spring orchids.

Princess Orchid tea is made with Chinese orchids, mainly spring orchids, but also some cold orchids.
The Chinese people appreciate the Chinese orchid mainly for its fragrance, which is known as: the national fragrance.
It is revered for two reasons:
Firstly, the Chinese orchid has an elegant, far-reaching fragrance, yet the flowers are very plain in colour and the leaves are very slender. It is generally likened to a wise person who is clean and simple on the outside, but lonely and noble on the inside.
Secondly, the Chinese orchid is very rare. Unlike other plants, it is not bound to flower at a certain time of the year. Whether or not a Chinese orchid blooms and how well it smells depends on the naturalness of the environment in which it grows. The wilder it grows, the more wonderful its fragrance; if it is cultivated artificially, the fragrance will change, and it is generally difficult to flower in heavily polluted areas.
Because of its nobility and rarity, it has led to it being an object not only of ornamental interest, but also of financial speculation.
Collect such rare flowers in early spring and use them in tea making, and the price of the tea can be imagined.

I intend to introduce one of the most expensive flower teas available in Sichuan: Orchid Princess tea.
First of all, let's talk about its concept.
The tea called orchid is, as far as I know, of two kinds in China:
The one we are introducing, is the Orchid Princess tea, a type of flower tea made with Chinese orchids and different tea bases (yellow tea and green tea can be used as tea bases). This type of flower tea is very old, with the earliest records dating back to the Ming Dynasty, the same time as the popularity of sencha in China.
The other, called orchid tea, actually is a type of green tea, comes from Anhui and is made from the buds and leaves of the local tea tree, shaped like the petals of a Chinese orchid, and has been cultivated since the Yuan Dynasty.
