THE PERSPECTIVE
Psalm 25:7
❝ Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O LORD!¹❞

✨ The divine approach is subject to criticism. You are not unaware that many criticize God. He has detractors, one of whose grievances concerns the principle of mercy. Why acquit a guilty person? Well, because of His goodness.
✨ He had to ask, at the end of a parable about punctual and faithful workers who resented the wages given to workers who arrived later: “Do you begrudge my generosity?”² Was He not saying, “Do I not have the right to be kind or tolerant?”
✨ In the minds of those who harp on faults and transgressions without concluding that they can be forgiven, there is an underlying idea of salvation or honor by merit. Who would deserve what when no one is perfect, except God Himself?³ The anger of those offended by forgiveness comes from an insinuation: some have rights that others do not deserve, because of something stemming from the efforts of the so-called “better ones”.
✨ What is often forgotten is that the time when God calls is no more in our control than the time when a heart is ready to open to Him.⁴ So, if He has not clung to our faults, why should He inscribe those of our neighbor into eternity?⁵ “They are more serious,” you will say. Who sets the gravity to exclude from forgiveness? Is it you?
✨ Because of these judgments, David moves forward with the reminder of dark episodes and finds himself imagining God rummaging through his past and his youth. God is not vindictive, much less secretive.⁶ When it was necessary to act after the episode of Uriah’s wife taken by David, He did it without evasion.⁷ When it was necessary to restrict David’s ministry regarding the construction of the temple, He gave him an open and concrete refusal.⁸ It is with the same frankness that, appreciating his ability to recognize his mistakes and obey the instructions he could know, God appreciated his attitude and state of mind.⁹
✨ Are you there, rehashing the past under the accusing finger of those who knew your transgressions? Do not take God for a man.¹⁰ When He forgives, He forgives. It is not 2026 and He is not keeping a notebook of your faults as a teenager, child, or youth. I am not speaking only in terms of age and maturity. I am also speaking of days of inexperience at work, in responsibilities, in your couple life, in your family obligations, of everything you may have done before you understood, before you learned. You bore the consequences in your time following those things.¹ Why, after having learned the lessons, would you think that God clings to those transgressions to deprive you, in your new season, of today’s opportunities? Move forward with Him, for He is merciful and good.
