I recently reached out to a graphic designer and asked him, "Can you show me how to edit my images the way you edit yours?" And guess what he said?
NO!
Well, I wasn’t surprised because he’s my friend. I just smiled and said, "My man, help your boy!" because I’m still learning a lot in Photoshop, even though I already create magic with the knowledge I have.
He also smiled and sent me a voice note (VN). He didn’t really explain how he edits his images, though. Instead, he told me that the process is long, so it would be difficult for me to understand through a VN.
I appreciated him for the VN where he explained a few things and moved on to research further on my own.
Why am I writing this to you as a graphic designer?
Nobody owes you a DAMN thing!
If you see a font or any other resource in someone’s design and you want it, just ask. If the person shares it with you, great! If not, move on.
There’s no need to feel bad or annoyed if they don’t give you the font or resources you asked for.
Some designers even go as far as asking for all the resources someone used in a design, like how?! Who does that?
Do you know how long it took to find those resources? You expect me to go through my entire gallery and dig them all out just to send them to you?
Just like my friend said, "The process is long...." Do I expect him to just rush to his laptop and start creating a whole tutorial for me for free?
If you admire the resources someone used in a design, baba, ask him how much for his course, then buy it! That way, he’ll be more willing to share than with just a random person asking for freebies.
It’s time to drop that entitled mentality.
If someone doesn’t give you the resources you want, go find them yourself!
Me too, I had to search before I found mine.
