MINSEC Cracks Down on School Administrators Altering Students’ Status Ahead of Exams

Cameroon’s Ministry of Secondary Education (MINSEC) has taken a firm stance against practices it considers unethical in some secondary schools. In a recent statement, the ministry accused certain school administrators of registering regularly enrolled students as private candidates for official examinations.

Behind this maneuver lies a questionable objective: artificially preserving the school’s pass rate. Students deemed “academically weak” are reportedly removed from the school’s official candidate lists, even though their tuition fees have been fully paid. According to the ministry, this unfair practice primarily conceals shortcomings in academic supervision and teaching standards.

Instead, MINSEC is urging schools to strengthen academic monitoring through remedial classes and better use of available teaching tools. Clear instructions have been issued to regional and divisional education authorities to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

The authorities have issued a warning: any school that continues with such practices will face sanctions as stipulated by existing regulations. At stake, officials emphasize, are the credibility of national examinations and the overall quality of Cameroon’s education system.

THE REALITY OF TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS NOW HERE WITH US📌

I am ashamed of a conversation I once defended, and it reveals a serious problem among teachers in Ghana’s pre-tertiary sector.

Today, I reflected on some discussions I used to have with fellow teachers back in Ghana.
And honestly, I felt ashamed that I was ever part of them.

Not because we were bad teachers, but because those conversations exposed our level of thinking at the time. They showed how limited our exposure was and how little we understood what professionalism truly demands.

One hard truth stood out:
Many of us were not learning beyond our environment.

When the National Teaching Council began implementing the Education Act by licensing teachers, professional development workshops were approved as one of the requirements for renewing licenses. Teachers were expected to attend trainings, earn points, and grow professionally.

Instead of asking what can I learn?
Many of us asked who is cheating us?

We argued angrily that workshop fees were just a way for the Ghana Education Service to take our Professional Development Allowance.
We complained about the annual GH¢100 licence renewal deduction.
We framed growth as punishment.

Looking back now, I see the problem clearly.
We were arguing from ignorance.

Today, as a certified teacher in Canada, I am required to meet strict conditions every year to maintain my licence. Not as a favour. Not as an option. As a responsibility.

My annual licence renewal fee is $200.

This year alone, I have registered for two professional development courses to improve my Mathematics teaching, classroom efficiency, and classroom management skills. These courses are approved by the licensing board.

One course cost $685.
The second cost $725.

No complaints.
No excuses.

Because I now understand something I didn’t before: You cannot argue strongly for what you do not understand.

In Ghana, many teachers see the Professional Development Allowance as extra sal

THE BEST STUDY STRATEGY TO SCORE HIGH IN ANY EXAMINATION.*BY PROF ABEN LEMUEL*

It's the goal of every student to really not just pass but score very high in every of their examination but sometimes that goal seems very difficult to accomplish.

Some students really study but then still complain of either forgetting what they read or not seeing what they read in the examination questions.

Here are some strategies you can apply to achieve that your target.

1) Get the past questions of every examination you are preparing for especially if a particular teacher/ body has been teaching/ setting the questions for years.

Here is how past questions helps you. BY PROF ABEN LEMUEL

It helps you know the questions pattern.
It helps you know topics which are always repeated .
It helps you know the time you are expected to spend on a question before the examination.

(2) Test yourself and do that honestly. Yes, allocate the same time of the questions to yourself and honestly see what you can do.
In doing this you can use your past questions. Remember past questions can be used after you have studied o.

(3) Teach others. Yes, if you cannot teach others what you claim you know then You really it. Teaching others help you retain and understand more what you know.

(4) understand your learning style and apply it .

(5) study using syllabus, scheme of work or course content as the case may be.

(6). Go back and review all the test and classwork incase of internal examination.

I hope this helps you students.
