Yesterday, a girl raised a trumpet.
And something in the room shifted.

I felt it before I understood it — a chill that started at the base of my spine and moved outward like a current finding every path available to it. As an engineering student, I know what resonance is. But no textbook ever described it feeling like that.

I was in Bamenda. African wear. International Women’s Day.
The African Woman Conference 2026 — Reclaiming Identity, Realizing Potential.

And I wasn’t just there to listen. My team at AiVE was there to exhibit — our art, centered around the African woman, hanging on walls in a room full of her.
We’ve been told a story — quietly, persistently — that a woman is a helpmeet. A supporting role. A margin note in someone else’s chapter.
But what I witnessed yesterday wasn’t a margin note. It was the whole manuscript.

Women are not created in the shadow of purpose — but as purpose. Better halves. Not accessories to identity, but architects of it.
I’m a Visual pencil artist. I draw people. And for the first time I’m asking myself — in every portrait I’ve ever drawn, what have I unconsciously left out?
Ones identity is shaped by their life’s experiences. This really hit me at a different level cuz,
Identity isn’t given. It’s lived. Chiselled by every room you walk into and every sound that moves through you uninvited.

Yesterday, a trumpet played in a room full of women reclaiming who they are.
And some frequencies don’t just travel through air —
They travel through you.

To The Girl Charge, every speaker, every woman in that room — I see you differently now.
And I’ll draw you differently too.

With so much Gratitude I appreciate Yosimbom Jania for her work and her existence. She’s been a real source of inspiration. Thank you so much for all you do.

🎨 Open Doors Day 2026

Yesterday the 13th of march 2026 was a day that reminded us why we do this. We had the privilege of exhibiting our art at the Open Doors Day event at GBTHS BAMENDA (Canada) — pieces built around the theme of CREATIVE ROOTS, PROFITABLE FUTURE, close to our hearts and proudly representing our school’s art club. It turned out to be so much more than just an exhibition. It was a moment.

We faced challenges along the way. Real ones. But reflecting on it now, those challenges were perhaps the most beautiful part of the day — especially for the newer members of the club who were with us. Because the most lasting lessons are rarely taught, they are lived. And we lived one together. Growth is not always comfortable, but to grow is to own our mistakes with grace, correct them with courage, and move forward with even greater purpose. 💪
But what truly warmed our hearts? The people. Seeing familiar faces, sharing laughter, and finding ourselves back in the very place where it all began. That nostalgia — the kind that wraps around you like an old song — was something truly special. There is a unique joy in reconnecting with those who have walked this creative journey alongside you, and yesterday we felt every bit of it. 🥹
And through it all, one truth stood out above the rest —
“Adequate preparation is the foundation of every successful mission”. A lesson we are holding onto and carrying forward together.
To everyone who showed up, cheered us on, and continues to believe in the power of art — thank you from the bottom of our hearts🙏🎨✨
