The best thing a 14 year old can do and many others is to learn the game properly.

The best thing parents can do is to be the taxi and the bank.

I have parents who help...not on court thanks...unless they know a bit about the game

I am learning to be a pilates trainer. It costs 6k plus I have to take lessons. Many to be able to then coach. It would be ridiculous to think I could start giving lessons without taking many and yet in squash that's exactly what is encouraged...

This is absolute nonsense.. get those same people going along to "help" to acquire knowledge first.

I am doing a training course for pilates.

It costs about 8k. Every single person there has done pilates which virtually always means they have been with a coach hence the general knowledge is good.

Everybody taking the course is invested.

With squash the majority of players don't take lessons. The general club level is atrocious.

The solution is not getting more coaches in. They will then be blocked in many cases by committee members who haven't got a clue.

That's one of the principal reasons why I am going to add pilates as I am fed up with idiots spoiling the game.

It will do two things. Add something to my coaching and give me more freedom outside of squash.

Finally the level of coaching courses in squash is way below par compared to what I've seen in pilates.

Well....I'm against diluted coaching and maybe some of the people going on these courses should be taking more lessons before thinking about giving any.

However it's good to see coaching going towards more groups.

I firmly believe these people should be working under the guidance of an experienced coach..

Here , everybody's a coach but nobody can play and for the little coaching done by rookie coaches it devalues a true pros work.

As a coach I have preferred working with leisure players. Experiences with parents of pro players can often be "painful"..one england junior international told me it would be good for me if I played matches with his sulky ,spoilt son.. our "collaboration" stopped quickly.

Others trying to get me to "fix" draws etc etc.

It's probably different if you get a kid right from the beginning and can work with the parents , or not...

Having said that I think kids are far better off NOT focusing on one sport only and getting skills from different sports.

In my multisport program zero problems with parents. In squash only programs problems increase far more..why do.yiu think that might be ?

Has youth sport become parents versus the coaches?

The answer is YES...

I was explaining to a pupil the other day that we have the same time to react to shots when we are doing some routines but I seem to have more time. That is because I process the information quicker than him. He is just in reaction mode...

Getting kids to process rather than just react...it doesn't have to be with a racket. It doesn't have to be doing hours of boast and drive.
