Forget gold leaf and Klimt’s golden phase for a second, this one is pure color. Painted around 1905, it’s an almost square canvas, 110 x 110 cm, where a garden dissolves into a shimmer of blues, mauves, pale pink and warm yellow light. Closer to Monet than to “The Kiss.”

Here’s the twist for “where to find it” this week: for over 40 years, you could see it hanging in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. Not anymore. In 2022, France restituted the painting to the heirs of Nora Stiasny, a Jewish collector in Vienna who was forced to sell it under N**i persecution in 1938. It left the museum’s walls that year and hasn’t been on public display since.

The Bayeux Tapestry tells the story of the 1066 Norman conquest of England: the fight for the crown, the Battle of Hastings, and the rise of William the Conqueror.

Nearly 70 metres long, it’s basically a medieval graphic novel stitched into cloth.

Kings. Armies. Ships. Horses. Betrayal. Battle. All embroidered more than nine centuries ago.

who would have thought that looking at clouds could have such a good impact on your brain and creativity?

When attention isn’t tightly focused on a task, the brain’s default mode network becomes involved. This network is associated with internally generated thoughts, memories, imagining possibilities, and aspects of creative thinking.
