🐜 The Swiss Art Awards present the newest jury members: artist Sonia Kacem, architect Shadi Rahbaran, and curator, editor, teacher, author and journalist Sylvain Menétrey.

✨ Curator at the Abbatiale de Bellelay since 2022, where he has organised numerous exhibitions including L’Effet de serre and Das grosse Ticken, Sylvain Menétrey is also a teacher and editorial coordinator at the HEAD - Geneva. Former co-director of Forde, a contemporary art space in Geneva, and exhibition coordinator at Fri Art, Kunsthalle Fribourg. He is a laureate of the Swiss Art Awards 2018, and of the 2012 Swiss Design Awards.
Sylvain is a multifaceted professional, seamlessly blending his expertise as a curator, editor, teacher, author, and journalist onto the Swiss art scene.

The Swiss Art Awards present the newest jury members: artist Sonia Kacem, architect Shadi Rahbaran, and curator, editor, teacher, author and journalist Sylvain Menétrey.

✨ Born in Meyrin in 1985, Sonia Kacem lives and works between Geneva and Amsterdam.
She graduated in 2011 at University of Art and Design (HEAD) of Geneva. With a keen sensitivity towards the ecology of materials and a deeply instinctive relationship with her chosen materials, Sonia Kacem creates environmental installations and sculptures that are visually straightforward, although utterly anti-monumental.

Solo exhibitions (selection): ’La chute’, Château de Gruyères, Gruyères (2024); Selma Feriani Gallery, Tunis (2023); Zurich Art Prize 2021, Haus Konstruktov, Zurich; ‘Between the Scenes’, Westfälischer Kunstverein Münster (2019); ‘RijksakademieOPEN 2017’,
Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam (2017), ‘Bermuda Triangle’, Kunsthalle St. Gallen (2015).
Prizes: Swiss Art Awards 2013; Prix Manor Genève 2014; Kiefer Hablitzel 2015, Zurich Art Prize 2021.

🐜 The Swiss Art Awards present the newest jury members: artist Sonia Kacem, architect Shadi Rahbaran, and curator, editor, teacher, author and journalist Sylvain Menétrey.

🏛️ Welcome, Shadi Rahbaran!
We are delighted to welcome Shadi Rahbaran as a new architecture expert for the Swiss Art Awards 2025, alongside Nemanja Zimonjic.

Shadi Rahbaran co-founded Rahbaran Hürzeler Architects in 2011 in Basel. After finishing her architecture studies at the University of Toronto, she worked at various offices including Bruce Mau Design in Toronto and OMA/Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam, Berlin and Porto.
She started teaching in 2006 as a Design Critic at Cornell University AAP and continued teaching and urban research at ETH Zurich, Studio Basel with Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron from 2007 to 2013 and led the Harvard GSD Study Abroad at ETH Studio Basel in 2013.
She has been engaged in teaching and urban research at the Design Lab of Kyoto Institute of Technology in Japan from 2015-2019 exploring the ‘metabolism of the city’.
Since 2019 she is appointed professor at the Institute of Architecture, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW in Basel.
Shadi Rahbaran was born in Iran and has lived in Germany, USA and Canada prior to moving to Basel.

Farewell, Swiss Art & Design Awards 2024! 👋 ♥️
13,000 visitors attended the exhibition week, hosted across 7,500 m² in Hall 1.1. at Messe Basel.

The event featured over 120 finalists, 50 guided tours, 15 talks and workshops, as well as participation by 2 Federal Council members .baumeschneider and .

Additionally, there were 2 award ceremonies, 2 Kids' Swiss Awards, and a memorable opening night, culminating in a successful conclusion to this year's Swiss Art & Design Awards. Countless encounters for and with our finalists occurred, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all visitors for their attendance and positive energy, as well as to the supervisory staff and the wonderful team who made Hall 1.1 a welcoming venue throughout the week.

We were delighted to leave Basel with minimal waste, a testament to the careful planning and anticipating of all our finalists and our partner .

PS: The next Open Call for both competitions will be held from October 25 to December 5, 2024.
