Sunset with Skyline in Bangkok 🇹🇭
I know about as much about construction 👷♂️ as I do about earthquakes 🌍. We were just *lucky* 🍀 to have left the city two nights before the big one hit 😔.
I read in an article 📰 that Thai authorities 🇹🇭 may have prevented an even greater disaster thanks to their strict building approval process 🏢✅—which can take over 1.5 years ⏳ and includes thorough inspections 🔍 before anything gets built.
At the hotel we’re currently staying in 🏨, not all rooms can be rented anymore 🚫 and there are cracks on many walls 🧱. Luckily, the main structural parts are still intact 🙏. This seems to be the case in many offices 🖥️, hotels 🛏️, and condos 🏙️. The insurance companies must be very busy right now 📑📞.
As for the building that collapsed 😢it looks like human greed 💸 played a fatal role. From what I understand, the project was first awarded for 100 💰, then passed on for 90 💸, and possibly even lower after that. This cost-cutting 🪓 chain led to serious flaws in construction and, tragically, too many lives lost 🕊️💔.
We’re hoping now that the earth stays calm 🤞 and the city can find some peace again 🕊️🌅.
