If we don't look for the gifts in menopause, we are going to suffer.

When we name her only by what she takes, she becomes a fate to endure, and we lose the thread back to our own womanhood. So I ask a different question.

What is falling away that you never wanted to carry? What is coming into fruition? How is she shaping you, and who are you becoming because of her?

Fear need not overpower reason if we learn to master our emotions. Mastery here does not mean silence. It does not mean pretending to feel nothing and calling it peace. It means being able to feel all the way through life and still know what is true. Practice feeling without doing. Once the feeling transforms, then decide what to do.

The hardest part of menopause was that nobody wanted to talk about menopause. Not the younger women, who turned away from the question, and not the older women, who had only the hardship to give. Silence is its own kind of loss. When we will not speak of her, every woman meets her alone. So I speak of her now, as a rite of passage, as an initiation, as the beginning of a new narrative.

We must decide to love and accept both the highs and the lows.

Everyone we encounter, creates a profound opening for us to encounter ourselves. It was never about our marriage, our business, our bodies, our education or our financial success. It was always about recognizing that life is a vast arena for our own growth and becoming.

Our true beauty does not show up in a selfie.

She does not dwell in stagnancy or performance.

Our true beauty reveals herself in our continual unfolding and becoming.

She is revealed in the knowledge of our worth, the courage of our freedom, the recognition of our innate alchemy and the blossoming of our wisdom.

She lives in the subtle ways we grow into deeper versions of ourselves and in our life-long devotion to change.
