Amidst the bursts of color, the silent drama unfolds of a young woman, struck by the brutal loss of her husband, a victim of the merciless clutches of the mines. She bears the pain of a world where exploitation gnaws at lives, while her little girl, an innocent spectator, perceives without understanding the tragedy etched into their days. The weight of the mines, a source of both survival and enslavement, perhaps calls her to join those who will exploit her own land, for a pittance of a wage.

In this deliberately colorful canvas, I weave with gentleness and gravity the portrait of modern slavery, a powerful metaphor for a human struggle, intimate and universal. An invitation to look beyond appearances, to hear the stifled cry of a land and its mistreated children, who nevertheless never cease to hope.
At the heart of this ordeal, the unwavering light of feminine resilience shines forth.

"This work is a poignant metaphor for the plight of child laborers, swept away by the tumultuous currents of life. Marc Makalu invites us to contemplate the horizon, where the burning desire to cross to the other side takes shape, like a dream shared by these children.

The artist immerses us in the world of these young people, where the line between hope and despair is thin. Reality is dense, opaque, and the future seems uncertain, hampered by countless obstacles. The basins they clutch in their hands are both tools of the trade and symbols of hope, objects that anchor them in their daily lives while allowing them to dream of a better tomorrow."

Happy Women's Rights Day, respect to these women, and this painting is a perfect example of the courage and self-sacrifice of this woman who is ready to sacrifice herself for her loved ones, I especially pay tribute to Congolese women, particularly those from the eastern part of our country 🇨🇩
