🧡 ABOUT MIDUNDO YA AMANI 🧡
A Word From The Founders

In 2025, an urgent initiative came to be: Midundo Ya Amani — Born of a vision to create a network of peace building performing artists across the Grand Lakes Region.

We welcome you to join us on this journey to create and connect artists of change!

May the rhythm of our steps echo beyond this moment, carrying seeds of peace into every corner, where silence waits to be transformed into DANCE 🌱✨

Bertin Kasolene is a Congolese dancer, choreographer, teacher and activist whose work is rooted in the belief that dance heals, brings people together, and awakens the senses. Born in a region scarred by war, he has turned the body into a space for resilience and transformation. For Bertin, every gesture is a breath of freedom, every movement a prayer for peace.

Trained at the École des Sables in Senegal, he has developed a choreographic language that combines traditional African dance, contemporary dance, and somatic practices. His dance exudes Africa, memory, and hope, a journey of the body toward the light.

Co-founder and coordinator of NGUVU YA AFRICA and founder of INUKA DANCE COMPANY, Bertin Kasolene creates spaces where art becomes a lever for healing and empowerment for children, youth, young girls and women. Through these initiatives, he transmits the power of movement as an act of individual and collective rebirth.

Bertin’s approach is nourished by the vision of Golden Bridge's SomaSource, whose teachings he integrates into his pedagogy. Bertin thus guides people into an embodied, conscious, and deeply human dance experience, a dance that listens to the earth, carries forgotten voices, and reinvents beauty in the heart of chaos.

Through his creations and workshops, he transforms the stage into a place of healing and hope. His dance, both rooted and visionary, tells the story of Africa rising, breathing, and dreaming again!

Chapter Two of Midundo Ya Amani came to a spirited close, but the echoes of its powerful message linger on. In a moving conclusion, parents, guests, and community members filled St. George’s Orthodox Church, moving along with a performance that was more than just a show. It was a statement.

"The Time Is Now," a site-specific dance theatre piece, was a tapestry of movement and emotion, weaving together the beauties and troubles of Kibera as told by the participants themselves. Each attentive eye in the audience followed along, receiving these truths from the voices of our next generation.
With the collaboration of teachers coming from DRCongo and Kenya Babu Abdoul Tambwe Tambwe GIKONYO and Bertin Leader Dancer

This is what community art is all about: a platform for young people to use their talent to UNITE, SENSITIZE, and INNOVATE. They are the leaders of today, building the world they demand, deserve, and desire. We have everything we need to create the world we dream of, starting here, starting today. The time is now!

Here we are, showing up with spirit, courage, and brilliant light. In a world that often feels loud and chaotic, we begin this new chapter of Midundo Ya Amani, the second chapter after Uganda with a profound sense of gratitude.

Start our journey not with rules, but with Names games. While using name games and movement as our first step to listen to each other, to connect, and to find our shared rhythm. For the next two weeks, we will use dance as a language to connect, to heal, and to build.

Look around you. See the power in the children, the wisdom in the young people. Despite the challenges, they hold an incredible capacity for joy and hope.

This is their rhythm. This is our rhythm.

A very special thank you to our guides, Professor Anu, Abdoul, Babu, and Bertin.

Let's begin. Let's move. Let's find our peace together.

Kicking off Day One with a warm morning of Self-Discovery ☀️

After a dynamic warm-up, the session with focused on Safe Spaces. Reconnecting with our true creative nature and practicing care for each other through movement, writing and conversation.

Up next was Kasolene, with an energetic exploration of Collective Awareness through choreographic tools and African dance forms. Key takeaways were taking up space with confidence and negotiating space with others with 360 awareness.

We can think of our presence as a dance on the stage of life. What is your offering?

Joyful introduction session with participants and our East African team of choreographers Anuarite Gikonyo (🇰🇪) Bertin Leader Dancer (🇨🇩) (🇺🇬 (🇰🇪)

The project has officially began! Chapter One brings us here to the Mbiko community of Jinja, Uganda 🇺🇬

In the setting sun, with distant sounds of call to prayer, participants shared definitions of peace, identified the challenges facing it, and ideas on the role of dance in our efforts towards long-lasting peace. We also set group agreements, to be the model community of the peace we wish to see in the world.

This is just the start of our journey together, and we are inviting you to join us!
So please follow, share widely and engage with us by leaving your thoughts in the comments.
