"Don t lose the people, who really like you"

The thing about losing people is, that it hurts a lot. Not the actual act of letting go and moving on is what is hard, but to accept that someone rejects you. Someone, that you thought likes you the way you are and accepts you. Truth is, that unfortunately most people never tell you, what they actually think about you or how your actions make them feel. It is a rare thing and if you find someone that is honest with you, you should value their honest feedback. It is hard to take critique, this is why it is so important to learn how to formulate what is on our mind and how it makes one feel. But if you know how to communicate on the other hand it is also rare to find someone who values that.

In a way people are obsessed with the illusion, that everything is supposed to always be smooth and right. We strive for the perfect state of happiness, but honestly reality looks very dark. If we would put in words how much injustice happens on a daily base, not only would we loose everyone around us, but also it becomes unbearable. Instead we numb ourselves with alcohol or work, an obsession with trying to help people or total isolation from the outside world.

We all carry a story, and it is not true that some of them are more severe than others. It is the problem, that we always consider either our own problems or other peoples problems as more drastic. This is why someone is always using and the opponent is being used. One person blames and talks badly, while the other is misunderstood and tries to solve problems.

I honestly wish I would understand how it all works, so I can avoid making the same mistakes over and over again. I don t like to feel the pain of rejection and it is not understandable to me, why I have to feel all this. To the extend that sometimes I just wished I had not feelings at all. It took me a long time to accept that they are a part of life too. In fact research shows, that 80 percent of our decisions are made based on our feelings.

I am just tired of the constant lies and manipulation, I honestly wish I was able to distinguish the people who only use me from the people that actually really like me. I wish just someone would tell me what they really think. I feel like I am left in the dark and expected to always understand. I can t bear this pressure anymore, I have hopes, dreams and needs too.

September 2017, I made some work at the Willem De Kooning Academy, where I study/studied arts, with the images I took during my stay after high school in Australia (2015/2016).
"This book is a love letter to Australia that hosted me for about a one year time.
I have selected a small amount of images and let them speak to me once over again. With water, colour, fire and scissors I edited my images and here you can have a quick impression of the outcome.
But don't be fooled! images defiantly do not speak more than 1000 words! This book is one that has to be touched and also Australia is something that has to be seen and experienced with your own eyes. My images are just a ridiculous try to capture this country' s beauty. It is and will stay forever my wild love that I' ll admire.
Until we see each other again. Keep your heads up I' ll be back. See you later mate."
--And I actually went back to Australia as planned only at the beginning of the year (2020) and spend my quarantine here; officially in an exchange program.
Yesterday, I was invited at my friends house for lunch at Linley Point (great views to the harbour bridge!!) and since I arrived a bit earlier I made my way into a book shop to pass some time.
I don t know, if anyone of you has ever read any "Bill Bryson" literature, but he writes mostly about his stays in foreign countries. He also published a book about Australia in 2000 called "Down Under - Travels in a sunburned country" and I had to laugh a bit, imagining an American traveling to Australia and facing all those animals and other rough conditions this country offers 🙂 I got really curious on how he experienced his stay, especially, because I have been to most places in Australia already and I was curious how he, himself, had experienced the same place (coming from America, under different conditions at a different time).
Long story short: I bought the book, and already smashed the first 100 pages yesterday. Interesting so far, especially because he manages also to include a fair bit of history based part in his book, and I was hoping to be able to make a sort of book review on my youtube account. Maybe also with some examples of experiences myself, but especially by relating it to my own work; which is as such a visual summary/impression of the country without words.
I would be super keen, if you could have a look at it and leave me a comment on what you think of it and if it covers the vibe of Australia (in case you have been already been there or comparing it to stories you have heard and your imagination). This is why I added the flip through version of my work, here in this post.
Thanks anyways,
Regards,
Celina

I bought a book of Mark Cohen from his last exhibition the Fotomuseum in Rotterdam 2014. Mark Cohen is an American photographer that is shooting in his hometown Wilkes-Barre in Pennsylvania, where he is living and working for almost 70 years now. He is especially famous for his street photography close up series where he works mostly with an wide- angle lens and the mostly mandatory flash.
Attached you can find a little documentation and interview and see his shooting technique visually.
