Yesterday was a LONG one!.
I started tattooing my first client around noon, then later in the evening another session at 7-ish, and we ended up doing TWO tattoos back-to-back, finishing close to midnight.
And honestly… it gave me a real glimpse into what this path could eventually look like full time.
These weren’t massive all-day pieces, but they also weren’t tiny little tattoos either. Between black packing, touch-up work, re-lining, adding white highlights, and colour packing, it was definitely a full day mentally and physically.
One of the biggest things I’m learning right now is endurance and focus. Not just physically, but mentally too. Once you’ve been staring at lines, negative space, saturation, and tiny details for hours, it really changes your perspective on tattooing as a craft.
Yesterday definitely came with lessons...
I caught myself getting confused in some of the negative space while packing black, and on another piece I learned VERY quickly that having the right needle grouping for colour packing matters more than I realized. Purple definitely tested my patience yesterday. 😂
I also learned that I need to pace myself better physically. After several hours of tattooing, my arms were definitely feeling the repetition, and it reminded me that proper pacing, positioning, and breaks are all part of learning endurance in this industry too. I honestly thought the colour piece would go much quicker than it did, but the packing process completely threw me off.
I also had my first experience needing to reapply second skin after it lifted from movement and plasma buildup around the ankle area (my morning appointment came back), which turned into another learning moment about skin placement, movement, and aftercare education.
And speaking of aftercare… one of my clients thought sunscreen was the immediate aftercare plan. 😅 So we had a good chat about proper healing, keeping tattoos protected, and saving the sunscreen for later once everything is healed.
But honestly, this is exactly why I’m documenting this journey the way I am.
Not every tattoo is perfect.
Not every session goes flawlessly.
But every single one teaches me something.
I’m learning skin, saturation, machine control, stencil flow, aftercare, endurance, and problem solving in real time — and I can genuinely see myself improving already.
ALSO… funny little plot twist:
My last client’s brother is dating my first client. 😂 And now HE wants a tattoo too — a matching tattoo with his brother, who already has it done. There’s actually a pretty hilarious story behind the tattoo they want, so stay tuned for that one because it’s definitely going to make for a good post later. 😂
