"I have often felt that the true strength of theatre is the shared time and space of the performance event – because audience reaction affects the telling of a story so heavily, no two performances are ever the same. This rings hollow, though, in contemporary theatre where the most we have come to expect from our audience is the odd chuckle or murmur in an otherwise silent, stagnant room. When we look across the industry to the booming chaos of a hockey rink, it is painfully clear that we need an injection of the chaotic into the world of theatre."

"NHL teams have achieved their sprawling influence by forging connections at every level of the sport in Canada. They have minor-league affiliate teams to feed new talent into the system, and put millions of dollars into youth development, publicity, and brand-marketing Nation-wide... Even though a local theatre is working on a much smaller scale and with comparatively miniscule funds, our goals are essentially the same, and these same practices can certainly be used on a budget to achieve them within the community."
