Introducing this week's Music in the Park performers: Marielis Fernandez Mora and Mark Branker!

Marielis is a music teacher and professional singer. Between music conservatories and music school she has a total of 9 years of education. She is originally from Cuba and has been living in Canada since 2016! Marielis was a part of our variety night last year and we are so excited to have her back!

Mark Branker brings a rich, international blend of rhythm and soul straight to the Virden stage. Born with music in his roots, Mark holds practical and theory certifications from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and gained acclaim as the winner of the Sandals Caribbean Antigua Encore vocal competitions.
Known to many as the “Caribbean Cowboy,” Mark fuses powerful vocals with warm storytelling, connecting folk, soul, and island roots into every performance. Now calling Manitoba home, where he resides with his supportive wife and two children, he is excited to share his love for live music with the Virden community and experience the town's renowned prairie warmth.

Tonight the Jubilee Stage will see two groups for our variety night!!!

Three dedicated students of Susan Martens, local voice teacher will be taking the stage. All three students have been taking lessons with Susan and have participated in Lute and Fable Music Academy (previously Virden and District Youth Choir). They all enjoy performing in various areas, including musical theatre productions, recitals, and festivals. They have all performed in the Manitoba Music and Arts Festival and played major characters in Virden's 2026 musicals. In VCI's production of Hadestown Charley (18) played Eurydice, and as part of Lute and Fable's production of Anastasia Jr., Leah (14) played Gleb and Ella (15) played Vlad.

Then, we'll hear some tunes from The Teagan Verner Quartet, a jazz quartet comprised of Brandon University and University of Manitoba music students. The band consists of Teagan Verner on baritone sax, Aria Remple on upright bass, Porter Dunn on piano, and Isabelle Snow on drums. This band was put together specifically to grace the jubilee stage for variety night. The Teagan Verner Quartet has selected four jazz standards for the town of Virden’s enjoyment!

Introducing the next Music in the Park performers: Young at Heart!

Young at Heart has been performing together for over 25 years, sharing their passion for music with audiences across the region. The group originated at Sacred Heart Church in Virden, where they began providing music for Sunday morning Mass. Since then, they have continued to serve their home parish while also performing at weddings, funerals, fundraisers, conventions, and community events, including Music in the Park in Virden and Reston.
The original members—Janet Yochim (piano), Eileen Hatfield (guitar and vocals), Tony Schneider, and Michelle Gervin (vocals)—have been the heart of the group since its beginnings. They are now joined by Kathleen Pateman on vocals, whose contributions over recent years have further enriched their sound. For this acoustic performance, Tom and Joshua Schneider join on guitar, adding another dimension to the group’s musical experience .
With decades of harmony and heart, Young at Heart continues to share music that brings people together.

Just one week until the first Music in the Park performance of 2026! Kicking off the summer is Virden's own Daelyn Fefchak.

You’ll usually find Daelyn at Arts Mosaic’s craft tent during Music in the Park, but this week she’s excited to be taking the stage! During the summer, she plays covers and original songs around Western Manitoba. During the school year, she is a classical singer at Brandon University. When she's not singing, you'll find her watching horror movies, hiking, or birdwatching! (Fun fact: her favourite bird is the black-capped chickadee).

Thank you to the ValleyView Co-op for sponsoring this performance!

Make sure to arrive early so you can grab a BBQ supper, $10-12 from the legion! Half the proceeds from the BBQ will go to a different community organization each week.
