Hello friends!

The official launch party for Gather, the poetry anthology I'm about to be published in, is taking place tomorrow, October 1st, from 4:00-6:00pm.

The event is taking place at this link:

It would mean a lot to me if you would consider coming to hear some incredible poets read their work for you. As someone who read my proof copy cover to cover—well, it was a PDF but y'all know what I mean—you are absolutely in for a treat to hear the people who have offered to perform tomorrow night.

Thanks so much! I look forward to seeing you. 💜

New work from a writing session today with Gather | A home for poets and what a treat it was! Our exercise today was to explore our poetic taste. Apparently I want gut punches at every turn. Lol.

BURY ME ALIVE WITH POETRY

Give me poetry I can chew on.

Lines carved discriminately from sinew

and bone. I desire words that sit

on my tongue and sizzle. Ideas, like seeds,

to plant in the soil of my brain

that one day may bear fruit and form

fleshy, boundless worlds of pure creation.

Give me poetry that I can handle.

I crave substance. Less abstraction.

More profundity. Send every syllable

into my marrow. Let it circulate in my

bloodstream alongside minerals

and mitochondria, delving

into depths of consciousness

yet unseen. Or, perhaps,

the opposite, for what magic may

trickle from these practicing hands?

Give me poetry that haunts me.

Delight me with daunting themes

and envelop me in the torment

of relation. Find me with words

that spill beams of light into my spirit’s

darkest corners. I want words that wake

me from my slumber because I’m

reciting verses out loud.

I defy you, poet, to be so brazen,

so bold: Bury me alive with poetry.

Gather | A home for poets is back in session and it's like waking up and taking a deep breath for the first time in years, when in reality it's only been 6 months. The world is a mind f**k, I tell you!

Here is a new poem I'm currently working on. I'm giving myself minimum 24hr before I go back to it for review & revision.

WHAT DOES LIFE MEAN TO A DYING WORLD

when the five stages of grief collide

in a great gnashing of teeth

and nails, torn sinew, the visceral crack

of breaking bones

When war has little significance

when one must beg for crumbs

we can barely chew on

violence is more than a throwing of fists

a collection of callousness thrust upward

caught by the wind, collecting any and all

in its upward draft

this is just the pretense. a distraction,

if you will: another trend. another

viral video turning our attention

away from suffocating oceans

and scorched earth towards

supply chains, manufactured

shortages and political f**kery

our legacy, laid out in liminal spaces

laid to waste with every lack of choice

every voice cut short, more concerned

with maintaining profit margins

than leaving ourselves with air

to breathe; with space and place to look

forward and toward

alas, we remain bereft, locked

in our open air prisons, condemned

to death by production

capitalism the warden

of our destruction

New book haul! Yay!

I thought seriously about going to the VPL book sale, but knowing how bad a beating Canadian publishing has taken especially in the last 18 months, combined with the fact that so many bookstores are suffering as a direct result of that, I took my cash and blew it in a local store instead. Thank you, Nena!

Seriously, if you're not doing your shopping at then I don't know what to say to you. Haha.

Titles are as follows:

A People's Guide to Abolition and Disability Justice

The F***ots & Their Friends Between Revolutions
Larry Mitchell (RIP)
illustrated by Ned Astra

Good Luck in the Real World

Why I Was Latepoet

Re-Origin of Species nacc

Tender Delirium

Nucleus: A Poet's Journey from Ukraine to Canada
Svetlana Ischenko

Writing & Workshopping Poetry
Stephen Guppy
(note: I purchased this privately because hey, who doesn't want a $5 book in immaculate condition?)
