"For A Dragon"
Belated bday present for (only a month late ๐Ÿ˜…) Finished product and progress pics.

I love how myself and others see your dragon essence and call you a dragon. Ever since you asked me at Shambs, "What kind of dragon am I?" I thought, "Let me show you!" ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ‰

Thank you for being one of my best friends. Showing up as a pillar of strength, providing me support & a safe space, encouraging me to come out of my shell, including me in this rave community I hold so dear and for inspiring me to paint after 5 years. I find it difficult to create art for myself due to my trauma, but easier to give as gifts to my friends or loved ones.

I'm so happy that my art is matching more and more with the vision I see in my mind's eye and that I can execute and manifest it into reality.

I wanted to capture the "Lightning In A Bottle" spirit you possess and I hope you see yourself as others so easily can!

This is my largest work to date 50cm x 70cm (19.7" x 27.6"). It's difficult to photograph metallic paint with an overhead light.

Funny how you came out with your merch at the same time and how similar the dragons are ๐Ÿ˜† Synchronicity! โ˜ฏ๏ธŽ

Keep shining & I can't wait to see your World Tour ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ (It's going to happen because we're manifesting it ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿคฉ)

Happy Belated!

21. Rhinoceros ๐Ÿฆ

Black rhinoceros are my favourite species of the rhino. They are a critically endangered species and three subspecies are now extinct. ๐Ÿ˜” The Western Black Rhinoceros was declared extinct in 2011. There are estimates that only ~3000 mature individuals exist in the wild.

19. Ridge

A day late because of birthday festivities, but this is my 4th year participating !! ๐Ÿฅฐ As always, just completing prompts I am inspired by.

H. R. Giger is one of my fav artists. I have always loved his biomechanical xenomorph designs. First year that I started doing inktober prompts I had drawn the Predator, so finally get to draw the perfect organism ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

"Meadowlark" exhibition.

"Aurelians III" is reminiscent of me. I have four butterfly frames in my collection of various species. I love taxidermy and the transient nature of life & death. It's why I have "Memento Mori" tattooed on me. Death is the most beautiful thing about our lives. The Greek gods were so envious of mortals and our willingness to die for what we love; how steadfast we are in our endeavours while they lived eternally youthful in their immortality on Olympus. Meddling in our affairs, looking towards our lives for entertainment in their dull existences.

"Meadowlark" exhibition.

My favourite piece.

"Bear" made me think of my nisรฎmis and her Cree teachings she gracefully bestowed upon me. How we both strive to grasp our ancestors' lessons to incorporate back into our existences, living authentically.

Always thinking of you and how we are under the same sky, moon and stars. Sisters forever. ๐ŸŒŒ

"Meadowlark" exhibition.

I immediately fell in love with "Student" as I was instantly transported back to my Chinese School days. Being enrolled from the age of 2 in Hong Kong and then again at the age of 7-18 in Canada, never having weekends to myself as it was every Friday from 5:30pm - 7pm. When you would rather be playing videogames and spending time making memories with friends, you were doing dictations instead and getting reprimanded weekly for just being a kid. Not allowed to have neurodivergent tendencies like fidgeting or stimming, getting beat and doing murga punishments. It brought so many overwhelming emotions back. Getting 100/100 every dictation, oral tests, being first every year and being first to graduate university didn't matter to my parents, I'm never good enough. I'm glad I got through that phase of my life, but would probably break down and cry now because I don't know how I survived that.

"Meadowlark" exhibition.

"Fetch" is the painting James released limited edition prints of created in collaboration with Brad Keech. Featuring the exhibit's title birds, meadowlarks, "the artist delves into themes of cultural identity, belonging, and the intricate dynamics between heritage and personal experience." [excerpt from the CICA website]

Like meadowlarks mimicing the calls of other birds, I feel the collective's urge to mask and assimilate into society, erasing our individuality. Only through self discovery do we start unmasking and showing our true selves. There is no other being uniquely you. Shine your light, who else will?

"Meadowlark" exhibition.

Labyrinths represents the soul in Greek mythology (Daedalus & The Minotaur) and I love its reoccurence in Jame's work. Every soul is on its journey to find itself, through our own unique triasl and tribulations. Like Daedalus, sometimes we create our own labyrinths (patterns/cycles) that only we ourselves can get out of. I hope everyone finds something worth living and fighting for. It's what makes life so beautiful, that we struggle and live to tell of our experiences another day. How could we appreciate our highest highs without our lowest lows?

I finally got to check out "Meadowlark" exhibition! He's one of my heroes and I've been following him since 2013 when I created my account.

I love his incorporation of Shan Shui Hua ๅฑฑๆฐด็•ซ methods of the Song dynasty ๅฎ‹ๆœ, but with juxtaposing pastel colours over the traditional ink & brush strokes. I felt so connected to my ancestors and the struggles we face daily to express.

Chinese mythology & animals that I have always felt attuned to like cranes, dragons and deer were rampant motifs in his work. I hope you'll enjoy my posts about them.

Thank you for showcasing Chinese history and symbolism throughout everything you do. You inspire me to be unapologetically myself. The immigrant experience is shared through our efforts to break generational trauma.
