I haven't posted in so long! But I have been unwell. But here is the complete drawing of the cat. I haven't used colour pencils for drawing for long so I am still learning. I wish I was able to create more depth in the greenery. What do you think of it? Do you have a cat that sits in the doorway looking out?

In every corner of our state, Minnesotans are doing what we do best: showing up for one another.

Neighbors are organizing school carpools and grocery deliveries. Small businesses are adjusting hours and services to keep workers and customers safe. Volunteers are exercising their rights, peacefully protesting, and documenting what’s happening in our streets to help protect rights and uphold the rule of law.

If you’re wondering, “What can I do from where I am?” the Best of Minnesota hub is a good place to start. There you’ll find:

→ Stories and images that celebrate real acts of courage and care
→ Know‑your‑rights tools for individuals and families
→ Concrete ways to support local response efforts — whether you live in Minnesota or across the country

📌 Visit, bookmark, and share the hub with your networks: https://www.mcknight.org/best-of-mn/

Together, we can ensure that the generosity, leadership, and resolve of Minnesota’s communities are seen and supported, not just in this crisis, but in the days ahead.

“If you are losing your leisure, look out! It may be you are losing your soul.”

Virginia Woolf

Have you ever had a moment where you notice you feel compelled to keep doing things when really you need a rest? I think it is a debilitating issue these days. I found this wonderful woman, Tricia Hersey, who has been advocating rest as an action and statement of our humanity. She created the Nap Ministry. Check it out. https://thenapministry.wordpress.com/

Michael Inzlicht, a University of Toronto psychology professor who studies effort, rest and leisure, notes that burnout is a form of depression caused by a lack of variability, novelty or reprieve in their lives. So science has confirmed, a change can be as good as a rest! https://michaelinzlicht.com/about

What fits better with rest than some daydreaming? I am working with Michelle Merlindt and her new book, The Journal Where Dreams are Born. Michelle has created a beautiful collection of abstract art and poems aimed at prompting the user to explore themes of rest, love, and dreams. I can't wait to have it available at Bummel Books! The image is a taste of her abstract art!

Want to explore some historically significant journals? Here is a list that includes Charles Darwin, Isabelle Eberhardt, Frida Kahlo and others. https://www.livescience.com/59430-history-noteworthy-diarists.html

What has inspired you to write a journal in the past? If you haven't done it, are there other ways you have expressed yourself? Maybe through scrapbooking or doodling?
