Barron S Barron S is best described as one part fiery red head, and two parts total music nerd. Barron S music has lovingly been described as 'the under-belly of Pop'.

As both a singer & DJ, she both spins and creates groovy House music that makes you want to move. Her sophomore release, 'MIXTAPE', features collaborations with a number of producers and songwriters including: Dave Ogilvie (Carly Rae Jepsen, Marianna's Trench,) and Davey Badiuk (Dragonette, Tegan & Sara). Our first single, What’Sup, is a collaboration with vocalist/songwriter/producer Omar Khan (Kreesha Turner, My Name Is Kay, The Hastings Set). The song revisits 1960's Pop in a whole new way by blending 60’s sounds with stanky synths and hints of r&b. Barron S has opened for Danny Masterson AKA DJ Mom Jeans (LA) and DJ Knowledge (Las Vegas). She has also had the pleasure of rocking stages at CMW & Vancouver Fashion Week & plans on touring extensively with this new release. With this MIXTAPE release we are LAUNCHING AN ADVENTURE!! On this adventure Barron S is volunteering her life as a human experiment. Is the indie community a real & vibrant thing? Is it really possible now to make a living in music without a label? Or are record labels still running the show, but just in a more inconspicuous way? What is possible for an unsigned artist in 2014? What is possible when you create something from nothing purely through the power of imagination? How far can music reach when it is fueled solely by fans? And what sort of adventures will we find ourselves on as we try to take this project around the world? The only thing we know for sure is…

It’s gonna be ONE HELL OF A RIDE!!! So...are you coming too? Join the adventure!!! We'll keep you posted on our journeys by using the hashtag

Tell us about your adventure too, also by using the hashtag

I just want to listen to music that understands me.

It’s ODD that only 11% of DJs are female, given that 50% of the population is female and dance floors worldwide are driven by femme energy.

Try to prove me wrong. Next time you’re out, look for who starts the dance party.
It’s usually an alpha female or a femme gay dude.

Yet, major festivals only book on average 4% femme DJs.

This is a problem. Femme energy is ESSENTIAL for a good party, but we’re not making space for femme artists, DJs, + music producers. How are these behaviours continuing largely unnoticed in a community that prides themselves on leading through PLUR values?

How are we supposed to encourage more women and femme folks to pursue a career in music when we aren’t even making space for the few who are here now?

When we systematically limit opportunities, mentorship, funding, airtime, and performance spaces for people based on how they were born, we don’t just hurt individuals; we silence entire narratives, stories, and artistic visions that deserve to be heard.

Femme artistry isn’t a niche; femme storytelling isn’t optional; it’s essential.

When women and femme folks are pushed to the margins, the industry loses, the culture loses, and the music loses. We lose the innovation, the perspective, and the raw power that comes from artists who’ve had to fight twice as hard just to be in the room.

Real change happens when we: book femme artists on equal footing, fund women producers and DJs, and make space for femme storytelling. Real change happens when we create mentorship pathways, amplify femme voices in radio, playlists, and festivals, and build spaces where femme artists thrive.

As event organizers, venue owners, festival promoters, or industry decision-makers, your booking choices shape whose stories are told. As femme artists, your voices matter. Keep creating, pushing, and demanding the space you deserve.

If you’re femme and thinking of learning to DJ, connect with my friends at for help.

The electronic music community is stronger when we’re all represented.

Let’s build that together!
