Black women are centred in this story and throughout this filmmaking process.
All backgrounds and experience levels are welcome.

We're assembling a passionate, collaborative team to bring Girls' Night Out to life, a cinematic short film following five Black women as they navigate friendship, identity and unspoken truths over the course of one Friday evening in Vancouver.

We are casting for Girls’ Night Out, a cinematic short film about five Black women from five African nations navigating one Friday evening together in Vancouver, BC.

Each woman carries something invisible into the night. What they find in each other is what no institution could provide. The film is strictly volunteer based, targeting festival submissions. This is a portfolio piece for everyone involved.

We are currently looking for:
LEAD ROLES — All five must be women of African descent

AMARA – Western African woman, late 20s to 30s. Sharp, always in motion, a code-switcher. Works in marketing and communications. Must be comfortable switching between Nigerian pidgin and a neutral Canadian accent.

NIA – Western African woman, late 20s to 30s. Medical student. Exhausted and brilliant.

ZURI – Southern African woman, late 20s to 30s. The anchor. Decisive, warm, composed. Social worker. Valid license & needs to know how to drive

IMANI – Southern African woman, late 20s to 30s. Playful, chaotic, observant. DJ.

TONI – East African woman, late 20s to 30s. Athletic build. A bit of a tomboy. Software engineer. Private.

SUPPORTING ROLES & EXTRAS

We are intentionally casting to reflect the demographic reality of Vancouver, a city built on Indigenous land and home to one of the most diverse populations in the world.

We are particularly interested in hearing from:

Black performers
Indigenous performers
East Asian and South Asian performers
White performers

for supporting and background roles.

All backgrounds are welcome to submit.

No acting experience required. If you have never acted before but feel connected to one of these characters please submit.

We are looking for truth, not technique.

This is an unpaid production (screen credit provided). Food will be provided on set. Some scenes require emotional depth, multiple takes, and reshoots.
