Dragons, I decide, are far easier to wrangle than my current avalanche of projects. At least with dragons, you know where you stand – usually somewhere between "about to be barbecued" and "definitely about to be barbecued."
Here I sit, surrounded by the creative chaos of my own making: two manuscripts sprawl across my desk like lazy cats claiming territory, their plots intertwining in my head despite belonging to completely different worlds. To my left, a small army of half-finished needle-felted creatures watches me with their beady eyes, silently judging my productivity. The newest one, a lopsided squirrel, seems particularly accusatory.
Paint brushes stand at attention in their jar, waiting for their next deployment onto canvas, while my teaching notes for the upcoming needle felting class play hide-and-seek beneath the rough drafts and reference sketches. I swear the papers multiply when I'm not looking. Maybe they've learned that trick from the dragons.
Ah well, they say creative minds never rest. Mine certainly hasn't gotten the memo about taking breaks or, heaven forbid, focusing on one project at a time. But soon – soon! – I'll have an excerpt ready to share with the world. Assuming, of course, my felted menagerie doesn't stage a revolt first.
