Some things in this city are hidden in plain sight — but if you’re out and about in Toronto this summer, there’s a lot to discover. Here’s a hint: tucked underneath Yorkdale Mall is an art studio and community space you probably didn’t even know was there. Yup, no joke. That’s where the latest edition of Love, Art & Basketball is happening — at Art Starts, an art space and community hub.
Through the eyes of the artist, this show explores how basketball connects to community, identity, culture, and creative expression - taking you way beyond the court and the usual stories that come with it. Alongside the art, there’s a full month of programming: think youth forums, a screening + closing party, and a bunch of other cool happenings.
If you’re wondering how to get there: head to Yorkdale, find the Nike store on the main level, then look for the hallway on the left (you’ll spot the Art Starts logo). At the end of that hallway, hop in the elevator to the Lower Level (LL). The space is just through the doors on your right.
