One month after catastrophic flash floods struck the Nepal–China border, at least 1,453 people are confirmed dead in Nepal and 43 in Tibet, with 5,285 people still missing in Nepal and 519 in Tibet. Only 112 of the 1,453 recovered bodies in Nepal have been identified and returned to families (7.7%), despite a large-scale DNA identification program involving multinational forensic teams from India, China, Singapore, and South Korea. Around 636 foreign nationals from 35 countries remain missing in Nepal, including 189 Indians, 65 Americans, 55 Malaysians, and 54 Ukrainians. Rescue operations continue at hydropower tunnels where workers are feared trapped, and over 13,795 people have been rescued since the August 26 disaster.
