New data from Zoocasa reveals that minimum wage earners in Toronto must spend 84 percent of their monthly working hours just to pay rent. In North York, that figure remains equally high at 146 hours of work per month. The study looked at 60 cities and found that 29 of them require over 120 hours of labor to cover housing costs. While Ontario has some variation, the Greater Toronto Area remains uniformly expensive for residents. Experts note that these high costs are making financial independence nearly impossible for young adults. Across Canada, only eight cities allow workers to cover their rent with less than 100 hours of work.

🇨🇦 Poilievre Urges Carney to Hold Firm in U.S. Trade Talks

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is warning Prime Minister Mark Carney not to give further ground to U.S. negotiators unless Canada secures tariff-free access to the U.S. market for Canadian lumber, steel, aluminum and automobiles.

In an open letter, Poilievre and Conservative trade critic Shuvaloy Majumdar called on Carney to deliver the “good deal” he promised and protect Canadian workers and industries.

The warning comes as Canadian negotiators head into another week of face-to-face talks in Washington, D.C., amid the threat of new 50% U.S. tariffs on certain Canadian exports starting August 19.

Canada is reportedly considering concessions involving automobiles, U.S. alcohol and dairy quotas in exchange for tariff relief.

Poilievre says lower tariffs aren’t enough — he wants tariff-free access and a full exemption from “Buy America” rules for Canadian companies.

Paul Brandt Paul Brandt has been putting his heart and soul into this fight and he is asking all of Canada to stand up and protect our children.

Alberta’s government will continue fighting for stronger federal laws that put predators in jail.
