Status of the Artist. It goes back to 1980, when UNESCO urged member states to guarantee artists real security: training, social security, fair income, mobility, freedom of expression, and the right to organize. But 46 years later, Ontario still hasn't answered that call.
ACTRA Toronto is calling on the Government of Ontario to pass meaningful Status of the Artist legislation that guarantees professional artists sectoral bargaining, better protections, and stronger rights. This will deliver the security, protections and working conditions that are essential to the sustainability of the creative economy.
Status means protection. The same as any other worker in Ontario. Status of the Artist Now!
