Celia Perrin Sidarous | Into the house of the heart,

⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆

“And so we dance, and dance as the images whirl around and radiate like magic lanterns, the smell of gasoline magnificent in the night as we remember how memory ignites the passion and the heart. The shape of the whorls and the whirl is a circle, inside of this circle is a smaller one, the circle is divided into four (traditionally) and its inner chamber is, always, referred to as its heart, illustrated thus or with a flower (rose, normally). This is an illustration of the past present future conflated into one concentrated disk, the magic lantern of the psyche.”

Sergio Suárez in the group exhibition ‘Minor Arcana’ at Sheet Cake Gallery in Memphis, Tennessee!

For this exhibition, Sheet Cake Gallery invited artists to reimagine cards of the tarot, this iteration in particular focusing on the four suits of Cups, Pentacles, Swords and Wands.

✧˖°🪞🪽⋆ ˚。

The 19 participating artists in Minor Arcana join a centuries-long tradition of recreating the imagery and symbolism of the Tarot in their own unique ways, imbuing the cards with visual markers of the cultural, historical, and political undercurrents of their respective times.

Celia Perrin Sidarous | Into the house of the heart,

ᥫ᭡.ִֶָ𓂃

These are the surfaces on which we map memory, access it through physical/liminal portals (embodied in the key, bronze), through the writ- ten word (scribbled, typed, painted, spat out on paper, printed image), and through various modes of the seen (seen echoed back audibly through sound, or in spurts of light on the monitor, or pressed through silk adding layer to the ground/paper, or simply by looking out the window; frame).

Balint Zsako | Manipulation | MONA | Tasmania
݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁

A space that serves as both testament to, and engine room for, work that draws upon timeless creation mythologies; recurring cycles of birth, growth and decay; the ever-presence of death within life; and sexuality as a generative, creative force.

Manipulation is on view at the Museum of Old and New Art until October 26, 2026.

Vanessa Brown in the billboard project on Main + 24th in Vancouver!

⋆.˚

The artist billboard series is part of a larger project championing artists, amplifying their work on a billboard at Main St. and King Edward, and reinforcing the idea that art, like food, nourishes, inspires, and sustains communities.

For this project, Brown has adapted the editioned,two-colour silkscreen print,  Slumber, 2021 (pictured in the 2nd slide).

🎐 ๋࣭ ࣪ ˖

Vanessa Brown is an artist who works in sculpture and installation. Her primary medium is steel and she is interested in challenging its historical associations with industry, war, and monument, by focusing its subtler qualities such as pliability, versatility, and slightness. The imagery in her work draws from various sources including landscapes, historical crafts, recurring symbols from her own dreams, feminized labour, gestures of comfort, and ideas of escape.

If you’re in and around Vancouver - keep an eye out for Vanessa’s public art installations !

SMASH: Afterglow at the Gardiner Museum with art by Shellie Zhang!

༄˖°.🧚.ೃ࿔*:・

SMASH is a night when the next generation of artists, art enthusiasts, and cultural philanthropists come together to celebrate the city’s vibrant arts scene and lower barriers for everyone to access hands-on art experiences.

Taking over all three levels of the Gardiner Museum for the first time ever, SMASH will invite experiences of joy and connection through multidisciplinary art installations, fashion, food, drinks, music, and more.

💐🧚

Shellie Zhang’s presentation at SMASH is a continuation of her exploration into surface as a charged site where connections between the decorative, ornamentation, cinematic surfaces, and skin are projected, learned, and inherited. Working across imagery and materials such as light, metal, found objects, and glass, she explores how these surfaces operate as perceptual thresholds.

𖧧 If you can’t make it to the gardiner on June 10th - stop by 21 Wade Avenue, to see Surface Tension, on view until June 13th! 𖧧

Work Highlighted:

Shellie Zhang, You said we’d meet again if fate willed it, 2023, stained white oak, photo transparencies, brass
