We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ash Knight, Artistic Executive Director of Pleiades Theatre.

Our relationship with Ash and Pleiades goes back to before Arabic Theatre Company was formally established, when members of our team were still creating theatre through the Canadian Arabic Orchestra. We first had the privilege of working with Ash on The King Is King, which he directed, and later partnered again with Pleiades to produce After Trojan Women.

Working closely with Ash, we witnessed his remarkable humility, his fierce support of artists, and his unwavering commitment to the art of theatre and to creating a more equitable space within it. He approached artists with generosity and respect, and brought both conviction and humanity to his work.

For a young artistic community finding its place in Canadian theatre, having someone like Ash believe in the work, make room for it, and stand beside the artists mattered deeply.

His passing is an immense loss to Pleiades, to the artists whose work he championed, and to the Canadian theatre community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ash’s family, friends, and the entire Pleiades Theatre team.

May his memory and the work he helped bring to life continue to resonate.

And that’s a wrap on The Vine That Withers at Toronto Fringe.

This play began as a question about friendship, survival, dignity, and the compromises people make when pressure keeps building. To see it move from the page to the stage, and to witness audiences respond, debate, laugh, cry, and stay after to talk meant more than I can put into words.

Across the run, every performance reached between 60% and 90% capacity, something we do not take for granted.

Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, shared a post, brought a friend, offered feedback, or carried the story with you after leaving the theatre.

Deep gratitude to our cast, director, producer, stage team, sponsors, community, , and for helping bring this work to life.

We learned a lot. We came out changed.

And that’s a wrap on The Vine That Withers.

Thank you for this wonderful experience. We learned a lot, stretched in ways we didn’t expect, and came out changed.

This play began with questions about survival, dignity, friendship, and the compromises people make under pressure. To see audiences respond, debate, laugh, sit in silence, and recognize pieces of themselves in the story meant more than I can say.

Deep gratitude to our cast, director, producer, stage team, sponsors, community, and every person who helped bring this work to life.

At Arabic Theatre Company, one of our goals is to support the development of new work by Arab artists.

This summer, we're co-producing *The Vine That Withers*, a new play by Toronto-based playwright May Tartoussy May Toussi as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival.

Set in a small Toronto café, the play explores ambition, survival, identity, and the difficult choices people make when their dreams are at risk.
