Calling all old-time enthusiasts (and the old-time curious too):

You are invited to the Toronto Old Time Social on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm!

Whether you'd like to play in a jam for a few tunes or just come and listen, join us for an evening of Old Time Appalachian Music.

The evening will feature a rotating jam and a mini tune workshop hosted by Chris Coole and John Showman, and a flatfoot dance demo/lesson by Blake Hannahson! Tap your toes. Make some music. Consort with your compadres. Hoist a libation. Try out flatfoot dancing. Engage in some hilarity.

Where: La Plaza at Dovercourt House, Lower Level (exterior entrance, 6 steps down), 805 Dovercourt Road. PWYC. Cash bar.

Hosted by: The Hogtown Hoedown (p.s. This event is not a square dance!)

Note: If you're planning on doing some flatfoot dancing, try to bring an extra pair of comfy shoes with minimal traction.

For more info: [email protected]

Please pass this on to anyone you know who plays or loves Old Time music!

In light of the spread of COVID 19 virus and advice around social gatherings and in particular, events with a high level of social contact, we have made the decision to cancel the March 2020 Hogtown Hoedown. We look forward to seeing you all at the next dance. Please check our pages for updates on the status of the April and May dances.

Can you fit the identity of a whole nation into a dance? Of course not. But we tried anyway.

Hello Friends;
The Hogtown Hoedown square dance is a non-profit, social dance that is organized and run by volunteers. We try to keep our expenses as low as possible so that we can hold an affordable dance for everyone to enjoy. Because the Hogtown Hoedown features a caller and live band, it is more expensive to run than a dance with recorded music. We are thrilled that everyone who comes to the Hogtown Hoedown enjoys it as much as we enjoy organizing it.

Our goals are to break even and support our great square dance community. For the past five years we have been able to achieve this. However due to a substantial increase in rent and a downturn in attendance for some dances, so far this season we have been unable to meet our expenses. If we aren’t able to meet expenses, we will not be able to continue.

We are interested in hearing from our community of dancers and attendees before we make any changes to the dance; please follow the link below to participate in a five-minute survey that will help us understand what we need to do next. Thanks for participating!

If you have experience in event promotions, and would like to volunteer your expertise, please contact us at [email protected]; we would love to hear your ideas!

All the best, the Hogtown Hoedown Team
