A special evening for everyone who carries a love for Urdu poetry, music and storytelling. ✨

Our friends at Rekhta are bringing Shaam-e-Rekhta to Mississauga for an evening celebrating the rich cultural and artistic traditions of Urdu.

The program begins with Roohaniyat, featuring Rabbi Shergill & Band, bringing Sufi poetry together with Punjabi folk, rock and contemporary music.

The evening continues with Rang aur Noor: Urdu Shairon Ke Filmi Shahkaar, a grand musical theatrical production featuring 25 artists from India. Through live singing, Kathak, dance, music and storytelling, the production revisits the golden era of Indian cinema and celebrates the legendary Urdu poets whose words shaped some of its most memorable songs.

The cast includes singer Himani Kapoor, acclaimed Kathak dancer Shinjini Kulkarni, Bollywood and ghazal singer Amrish Mishra, singer Shruti Mishra, Kathak dancer Yamika Mahesh, and an ensemble of accomplished performers.

Seun Kuti leads Egypt 80, the ensemble originally formed by his father, Fela Kuti, carrying forward a powerful Afrobeat legacy shaped by jazz, funk, highlife, political expression, and deeply layered rhythmic traditions.

Known for their dynamic musicianship, commanding horn arrangements, and expansive live performances, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 offer a compelling meeting point between Afrobeat and the improvisational spirit of jazz.
