I created the biggest artwork of my life — from a broken, 100-year-old church window.

Two years ago, we randomly bought this nearly 3-meter-tall window. Both panes were broken, and the frame was falling apart.

We restored it, replaced the glass, and decided to paint on it.

Inspired by the mermaid window from Harry Potter, I adapted the design to fit this window and painted it entirely by hand with glass paint.

It took me months to finish… mostly because I kept procrastinating. 😂
But the actual painting only took three or four days.

Then we added a light panel behind it — and somehow, this became the most popular photo spot in our studio. ✨

Two years ago, I went back to Hainan and happened to experience Typhoon Yagi, one of the strongest typhoons to hit the region in recent years. I spent that night at my grandparents’ home—with no water, no electricity, and the whole night shaken by wind and rain.

When I returned to my studio in Canada, I suddenly wanted to capture that memory in paint. So, without much of a plan, I started this oil painting.

The funny thing is, I’m terrible at sticking to a plan—and I have a very short attention span when it comes to projects. I would paint for a while, let it dry, and then completely forget about it until whenever I felt like picking up the brush again.

So this painting took me several months, slowly making its way through an entire Canadian winter.

Maybe that’s also part of the painting: a memory of a storm, carried from one season to another. 🌧️
