The Toronto Black Film Festival is about DISCOVERY & DIVERSITY! We’re devoted to sharing our stories and celebrating diversity within the various Black communities! TBFF is dedicated to giving unique voices in cinema the opportunity to present audiences with new ways of looking at the world. Our goal is to attract a diverse group of people both within the Black communities and other ethnic communi

ties throughout the city. TBFF was launched in February 2013 by President/Founder, Fabienne Colas and GLOBAL Toronto. It is a sister festival to Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF) which will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year. The festival will screen a vast selection of films representing storylines about Black people from various countries around the globe including films from Nigeria’s growing film industry. TBFF is the first film festival to feature Nollywood films as part of their regular programming. We are devoted to celebrating the cinematic work of Black filmmakers and talent, and dedicated to providing the opportunity for filmmakers from all ethnic groups to share and promote authentic stories that reflect the true reality of Black people around the world. We mourn the passing of the legendary Dr Oliver Jones, a jazz icon, proud Montrealer, and one of Canada’s greatest musical treasures.

The Toronto Black Film Festival was deeply honoured to welcome Dr Jones as our Guest of Honour at the 2018 Toronto Black Film Festival, where we celebrated his remarkable career and lasting contributions to music and culture. His presence was an inspiration to our audiences and remains a cherished part of our festival’s history.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him and experiencing his music.

Thank you, Dr Jones, for sharing your gift with the world. Your legacy will live on through every note, every performance, and every life you touched.
