What a wonderful evening with Tom Campbell!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday for Tom’s Artist Talk, and to Tom for sharing such a thoughtful and generous look into his life, work, and decades-long artistic practice.

From reflections on the everyday and the existentialism found within ordinary life, to stories from his many years of making and teaching, it was a special evening of conversation, art, and community.

We’re so grateful to Tom for continuing to be such an important part of the TSA community, and to everyone who came out to share the evening with us.

Collage has been the artist’s playground for over a century; a process of cutting and pasting found imagery to spark unexpected compositions, raw textures, and entirely new stories.

This fall, explore the possibilities of this discipline with Toronto-based artist and educator Kyla Brown. Working across drawing, installation, video and community-based projects, Kyla’s practice explores everyday routines, material practices and our relationships to place.

In Introduction to Collage, you’ll experiment with materials, techniques and approaches while developing your own visual language.

Introduction to Collage
Sept 29–Dec 1 | 10 weeks
Tuesdays | 10 AM–1 PM
Instructor: Kyla Brown

Cut, layer, rearrange and discover new possibilities in Introduction to Collage this fall.

A colour beautiful enough to die for.

In the 19th century, Paris Green became a fashionable choice for everything from dresses to wallpaper. The catch? Its brilliant emerald hue came from arsenic, making the pigment as dangerous as it was striking.

Thankfully, today’s greens offer all the vibrancy without the poison.

For our final Fall in Colour, explore colour, material and process through Introduction to Collage, Introduction to Glass Fusing and Slumping, and Introduction to Painting in Acrylics.

Fall registration is open. Find your class and start making.

Did you know printmaking has been used to reproduce images for over a thousand years? From Hokusai’s iconic woodblock prints to Rembrandt’s expressive etchings, artists have long used printmaking to experiment, tell stories and share their work with wider audiences.

From centuries-old techniques to experimental approaches today, printmaking continues to evolve through process, repetition and discovery.

Explore woodblock and watercolour, drypoint, relief, monoprinting and more at TSA this fall.

Printmaking classes begin throughout September and October. Fall registration is open. Find your class and start making.

What if creating a single colour required thousands of sea snails?

Tyrian Purple was once one of the most expensive colours in the world. Made from the secretions of Murex sea snails, producing the dye was incredibly labour-intensive, requiring thousands of mollusks to create just a small amount of this rich purple.

Highly prized throughout the ancient world, Tyrian Purple became a symbol of royalty, wealth and power. In ancient Rome, its use was even restricted to certain members of society.

Explore new approaches to colour, form and creative expression in courses like Expressive Figure Drawing, Contemporary Strategies, Illustration Essentials and more this fall.
