Poetry is my punishment. Maybe it always has been. I’ve never been one to let go easily. I never surrender, I overstay my welcome, I give love well beyond when I should, and I reminisce on every little thing. Searching for metaphors and meaning, wondering what could come of a situation, what’s still left to unpack. And though the ability to reflect is a gift, getting lost in that mirror of our past can be dangerous. When I made the decision to live beyond my ache, I realized I began to write a lot less… but maybe I should be grateful for the opportunity to write from somewhere that doesn’t prod the bruise, even if it means not writing much at all.🔏🖤📓 Also, I would like to share that my debut book is currently on sale! If you’ve been waiting to read the ink that you’ve become, you can now get your copy for only $10CAD for a limited time only! 🫶 happy summer reading!

Yesterday was 2 years of the ink that you’ve become. I would’ve shared something yesterday to commemorate the milestone, but I really wanted to sit with how much my life has changed since that book first met the hands and hearts of people outside of myself.

Since that publishing day I have gotten 2 degrees, solo travelled, learned to love my lonely, made new friends, found new forms of love, bought myself flowers, learned to play, found my voice just to lose it and find it and change it again. I’ve written a few poems, a thesis, some articles, and rewritten what it means to be myself. The biggest change, though, has been my relationship to my hurt. For a long time, I allowed myself to live as a victim of it. I led with my pain forward, thinking that vulnerability alone was what made me special. However that is not true. Pain can shape a person, but it is NOT the most interesting thing about them.

Thank you for carrying this book with you for the last two years. What a privilege it is to be read while still becoming. 🤍

Lilacs are coming back, hallelujah, thunderstorm season is here, hallelujah, winter is over, hallelujah! 🙌🏼🪻💜

I’ve always been such a sucker for springtime. The sound of the birds returning in the morning, and realizing you didn’t even notice they were gone, but it’s so obvious now that they’re back. Standing in the sunshine first thing to start the day. Evenings that stretch later and later into the night. New blooms popping up and old favorites returning.

All of it. Springtime, HALLELUJAH. 🌸🌱☀️

I went 3,000 km to prove I could do it alone. I didn’t expect that to be the thing that made room for so much more. Like room strangers who didn’t feel like strangers. For stories I wouldn’t have heard otherwise. For people who cheered for me in a crowd like they’d known me longer than a day.

I went looking for a concert.
I found a community in a lineup, a graduation ceremony on a sidewalk, and a version of myself that doesn’t run from being seen anymore.

The full story is up on my Substack if you want to read it 🫶🏼 link in bio.

I’ve been seeing that trend - “I fell in love once and now I hate the 24th of the month, the colour blue, waking up past noon, black leather jackets” and it reminded me a lot of this poem from last year.

Even when you’re ready to move forward, there are parts of you that still translate everything through someone you used to love. Because love rewires ordinary things into something personal, and meaningful and new. So of course, it takes time to make them yours again. I hope you do.
