🎥 A New Generation of european filmmakers steps into the international spotlight
🎬 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival returns July 3–11 for its 60th edition, celebrating outstanding cinema from Europe and beyond.
🇪🇺 This year’s festival continues its tradition of spotlighting bold European voices, with a strong selection of new films from across the continent, bringing together established filmmakers, emerging talent, and stories that reflect the diversity of today’s European cinema.
🎞️ We look forward to seeing which European titles come out of this anniversary edition and make their way to Toronto!

🎬🇪🇸 2026 has been a remarkable year for Spanish cinema. For the first time, three Spanish productions competed for the Palme d’Or, alongside several other Spanish titles that premiered at the festival. Looking forward to catching up with these films when they make their way to Toronto!

🇧🇪🎞️ 'Kichka: Telling Myself' (Belgium) — an intimate portrait of renowned cartoonist Michel Kichka, blending personal history with artistic expression. Michel Kichka and Director Gadi Aisen in attendance!
🇫🇷🎞️ 'Mariana’s Room' (France) — An elegant adaptation of Aharon Appelfeld’s award-winning 2006 novel Blooms of Darkness set in WW2 Ukraine about a twelve-year-old boy taken in by a beautiful s*x worker at a brothel.

🇩🇪🎞️ 'Rosenthal' (Germany) — This drama follows game-show host and Holocaust survivor Hans Rosenthal, who must choose between hosting a live broadcast or attending Germany’s first Kristallnacht memorial.

🎞️ On the eve of the 1940 German invasion, a shy soundman and a passionate actress fall in love at Brussels’ Flagey radio building, using live radio drama to create a refuge of hope amid the growing threat of war.

🇷🇴 From Romania’s Cristian Mungiu taking the Palme d’Or for 'Fjord', to Russia’s Andrey Zvyagintsev winning the Grand Prix for 'Minotaur', and 🇩🇪 Germany’s Valeska Grisebach earning the Jury Prize for 'The Dreamed Adventure' reinforcing Europe’s enduring influence on global filmmaking.

🎬 Add in a joint Best Director Prize win for 🇪🇸 Spain's 'La Bola Negra' and 🇵🇱 Poland's 'Fatherland' as well as 🇫🇷 France's 'Notre Salut' for Best Screenplay and 🇧🇪 Belgium’s 'Coward', this year’s Cannes became a powerful showcase of Europe’s creative force in cinema.

🏆🇪🇺 Last month, THE LOVE THAT REMAINS, directed by Hlynur Pálmason, received the Latin American Critics’ Award for European Films!
🎥 Presented at the the FICG Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, the award — now in its third edition — celebrates outstanding European cinema and its resonance with Latin American audiences.

🇳🇴 Norway secured its first-ever Academy Award with SENTIMENTAL VALUE winning Best International Feature in a historic breakthrough.
🇮🇪 Ireland celebrated a major milestone as Jessie Buckley took home Best Actress, becoming the first Irish woman to win in that category (perfect timing for St. Patrick’s Day ☘️😉).
🎬 European storytelling also shined in documentary, with a European co-production winning Best Documentary Feature.
