: Conan O'Brien and Parks and Rec / The Office creator Greg Daniels reminisce during podcast about 1987 visit to find actor from The Beachcombers CBC TV Series filmed in Gibsons on Sunshine Coast BC Canada 🇨🇦 The Vancouver Sun.

The pair discovered the CBC series The Beachcombers and decided the trip was now all about heading to Gibsons, where the show was shot and meeting the stars.

“There is a Canadian content show that ran for like, 50 years. It’s like, the Bold and the Beautiful of Canada,” said Daniels describing the series that starred Bruno Gerussi and ran for 19 seasons from 1972 to 1990, for a total of 387 episodes.

The pair missed the B.C. Ferry they needed to take to what they referred to in the podcast as “Gibson Island.” Still determined to get there, they managed to convince a local fisherman to take them in his boat over to the Sunshine Coast. Once they arrived, the pair had a plan.

A huge congratulations to 891 Property Master Dean Goodine, whose book, "They Don't Pay Me To Say No: My Life in Film and Television Props," has been added to the Margaret Herrick Library — the library of the Academy of Motion Pictures! Dean self-published the book three years ago, giving it a rare distinction among those in the Oscars' library circulation. We congratulate Dean on this huge accomplishment!

We published a Member Spotlight article on Dean in 2022 following the release of this book — check it out at https://ourwork.ca/blogroll/posts/member-spotlight-dean-goodine/

A new episode of Vantropolis is here! 🎬🤓

Sheona McDonald is a director, writer, and producer with over thirty years of experience in the world of documentary filmmaking.

Throughout her career, she’s not only created and financed projects, but also written, directed, and produced a wide range of compelling films that tackle important and often challenging topics.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Sheona took Media Studies at Capilano University in the 90’s, and created two powerful student documentaries in the process. She moved onto Script Supervision and then after motherhood found herself back in the world of documentary filmmaking.

Her work has always gravitated toward complex, thought-provoking subjects—examining everything from gender identity to cyber fraud and infant loss. Unlike many mainstream productions, Sheona’s documentaries are often made on tight budgets, yet they never compromise on depth or authenticity. She’s worked on everything from Love it or List it Vancouver, season 2 of the popular documentary series Emergency Room: Life and Death at VGH and Dead Man’s Switch - a crypto mystery which she wrote, produced and directed.

Sheona has just finished directing, writing and showrunning the 4-part documentary series Transplant Stories which follows the intimate and dramatic stories behind just a few of the thousands of organ transplants performed each year in Canada.

Her journey through storytelling proves that sometimes, truth is not just stranger than fiction—it’s far more compelling, pushing us to rethink our understanding of the world around us.

Have you listened to the latest episode of yet? is a Unit Stills photographer in the BC and a lovely human who had quite the journey to getting into film.

I’ve been doing this podcast for a few years now, and while I don’t pump out very many episodes as a one woman operation (host, writer, editor!), I’m so honoured and proud of the conversations I have captured, sharing stories of how people meander into film, some very intentionally and others very serendipitously.

Darko’s episode reminds me of this as we discuss him fleeing his homeland as a young man during the Yugoslav Warsin the 90’s, how one finds belonging and also the very essence of human connection that is so interweaved into his role on set.

Listen on Apple podcasts, Spotify, or where you get yours. Also link in bio to listen directly 🎬

Thank you Darko for sharing your story!

A new episode of Vantropolis drops today! 🎬🎙️

Darko Sikman is a Unit Stills Photographer in the BC Film industry. He captures those behind the scenes moments and killer images on set that are often the first glimpses you see when a new film or TV series is being promoted.

As with many film folks, Darko Sikman’s journey to Unit Stills Photography wasn’t exactly a straight line. Born and raised in Bosnia, he fled the Yugoslav Wars in the 90’s and settled in Canada, where he pursued his passion for photography. He worked his way through weddings and events and even spent time in the cruise industry, travelling to over 70 countries. And then, film.

With credits including Alaska Daily, Allegiance, Big Sky, Family Law, and The Good Doctor, Darko’s lens has captured the magic behind numerous productions. We delve into his experiences on set, his recent venture into documentary filmmaking, and the underlying theme of belonging that threads through his career trajectory.

And who knows, we might just uncover a delightful anecdote involving none other than Bill Murray. Thank you for your time and story 🙏🏻
