Akin Projects is an arts programming organization and registered nonprofit established in 2015 for the purpose of providing both creative and professional development opportunities to members of Toronto’s artistic and cultural community and the public at large. We have offered services to over 2,500 individuals since our inception in 2015. Our

sister organization, Akin Collective, was founded in 2009 and provides affordable studio and shared workspace in a friendly atmosphere for about 1250 members.

September's Akin Monthly Crit Night will be happening on Wed., Sept. 2 at Remote Gallery, 568 Richmond St W., Gallery B at 7:30pm.

The Akin Monthly Crit Night is an event designed for Akin members and members of the public to connect, share creative work, and receive valuable feedback within a supportive community.

Please register to attend via link in bio. Participation is free, but there is a limited capacity. If we hit capacity, current Akin members will be prioritized for participation.

The Akin Monthly Crit Night is hosted by artist Sofia Berger () on the first Wednesday of every month at a rotating location.

Firouzeh Saremi Far, a 2025 Akin Career Launcher Award recipient and OCADU graduate, presents 'Breakthrough' at Remote Gallery, August 15–16 from 1–8pm.

A series of sculptural installations, Breakthrough is inspired by the quiet resilience of small plants that push through asphalt, fracturing hard surfaces as they grow toward the light.

A new exhibition is coming to the Akin Vitrine Gallery this summer. On now until September 27th, artist Victor Wei’s () recent work can be seen 24/7 from the sidewalk at 1747 St Clair Ave W. Victor’s beautiful paintings explore geometric shapes that speak about other dimensions. Be sure to check it out along with our interview with Victor in our blog. (Link in bio)

Over the summer, Akin has had the pleasure of working with photography intern Marilyn Braun (), a fourth-year student in Sheridan College's Bachelor of Photography program, who has been documenting Akin members and their studios.

Marilyn is a professional photographer whose work spans event, portrait, and documentary photography, with a focus on capturing authentic moments and genuine human experiences. Driven by curiosity about people and a passion for visual storytelling, she creates images that are thoughtful, compelling, and full of meaning.

Congratulations Michael Donohue (), the inaugural TOAF, Akin Space Award recipient!

Michael is a fibre artist reinterpreting traditional crochet techniques through his self-taught practice of freeform crochet. His work explores our connection to the natural world, inviting viewers to slow down, reflect, and appreciate the subtle beauty found in our environments.

The TOAF, Akin Space Award was created in collaboration with the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF) to support emerging artists by providing access to creative workspace and/or exhibition opportunities.

Michael is the recipient of a $1,000 Akin Space Award credit, which can be applied toward:

✨ An Akin studio membership (shared or dedicated)
✨ A Remote Gallery rental
✨ Or a combination of both

Michael is currently creating new work for his first exhibition at the Cabbagetown Arts & Crafts Show, taking place September 11–13, 2026.

A big thank you to all of the TOAF () staff, volunteers, and jury members, as well as our juror, Akin’s Remote Gallery Manager, Renato Baldin (), for helping make this award possible!
