The passing of an individual receiving AISH benefits has sparked renewed discussion about whether Albertans living with disabilities are receiving adequate support and assistance.
Premier Danielle Smith has responded to growing questions regarding Alberta’s disability-benefit programs as advocates, families, and community members call for greater clarity and accountability.
Many argue that the province should take a closer look at benefit amounts, eligibility requirements, and program policies to ensure people with disabilities have sufficient resources for essentials such as housing, groceries, healthcare, and daily living expenses. Others believe it is important to fully understand all the facts before drawing conclusions about what may have occurred.
