My pieces are made using a wheel that gets its power from the sun, and trimmed on a wheel powered by my kicking foot. Once the pots are dried they’re brought to a nearby old mill for grid-electric kiln firing. I find inspiration in gardens, forest, local hills and the joy of creating. I try to bring care & beauty to every piece and hope this is felt when folks hold my pots in their own hands. Nothing tickles me more than thinking of my work becoming a part of someone else’s everyday ritual.

On a weekend for giving thanks, a mo to appreciate how special it is here! The magical mix of hardwood & softwood trees that make up our Wabanaki-Acadian Forests are found nowhere else on this big old planet!

But only 1% of original Wabanaki-Acadian forest remains in NB. It’s endangered and in real threat of disappearing.

This fall/winter, thanks to a Creation Grant from artsnb I’m diving into studying native trees & plants, making glazes inspired by their hues, and sculpting work in their honour.

I’ve started off with a few bark mugs, making prints on trees at the Meduxnekeag River Association Nature Preserve.
The Wabanaki-Acadian forest is home to 32 native tree species…I’m seeing which of these handsome jackets lend themselves to clay texture.

So far my friends Red Pine & White Cedar haven’t disappointed! (Thanks guys!)

✨ If you have made at least 1 piece to completion (handbuilding, first firing, glazing, second firing, and then you took home your pot), please join us instead at our next intermediate Night Oct 29th.
(If you aren’t sure which you are, or want to come with a friend who is in a different group, please shoot me a message & we’ll figure it out)

🔥 firing update: not everything made at last newbie night has been fired, if your attendance depends on the stage of your pot , shoot me a message to ask your piece’s status.

The rest of our logistics: a casual evening of creativity at the River Art Centre & Studios 8746 Main St, 6-8 pm. 🎨🖐️No registration required BUT PLEASE DO COME ON TIME so we can arrange seating & setup.🪑 Basic instruction is provided to get you started. ….Bring your ideas, gusto, project dreams & we’ll see what happens!

*Costs*: Fee to attend each Drop-in is $5 per person. The first (bisque) firing of any pot you decide to keep costs $10 each piece. Then Glazing costs an additional $10 each piece.

Event for ages 15+. (Children aged 7-14 welcome to participate if accompanied by an adult).
