There have been so many changes in how we have done business over the past 30 years. This stroll down memory lane does not begin to reflect the changes in our fleet or our staffing, but it does show a glimpse of the difference time has made in our approach to environmental action.
When we began in 1996, we were a small operation serving a handful of customers, hand-sorting organic materials and diverting them from landfill to farms and composting sites. At the time, this approach was still emerging, well before formal climate policies and long before Green Bin programs became standard across Ontario.
As the industry evolved, so did we. We invested in mechanical separation systems, expanded our processing capacity, and helped customers manage source separation challenges directly. In the 2000s, we also embraced anaerobic digestion and early renewable energy applications, directing organics into systems producing biogas, electricity, and soil amendments.
By the mid-2010s, organics diversion had become a core part of climate action and methane reduction strategies. We were ready with tailored collection programs, bin systems, and contamination controls to support businesses in meeting growing sustainability expectations.
Today, we remain focused on innovation, food waste diversion, and resource recovery — staying ahead of change while helping customers reduce impact and build a more resilient, sustainable future.

James Davidson was happy to represent Davidson Environmental at Sustainable Waterloo Region's annual meeting recently. SWR has been partnering with Davidson Environmental for 2 years and has seen organics diversion increase to 4.84 tons a month, generating 812.92 kWh of clean energy monthly and reducing GHG emissions by 1.28 tonnes a month. We applaud their efforts and are delighted to partner with a community that comes together for the good of the environment. https://report2025.sustainablewaterlooregion.ca/

Earth Day 2026: CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION
Progress does not happen in silence.
It happens when people show up.
Environmental progress is built through everyday action that includes everyone from communities protecting ecosystems to school children packing lunch in reusable containers and everyone in between. Clean air and safe water aren’t optional—they’re essential. For Earth Day 2026, we’re on board, every action counts, every voice matters.
Small, consistent actions add up to big change.
Being Eco-Friendly Looks Different for Everyone
Whether your resolution looks like reducing waste when you can, learning about local environmental issues, voting for climate-forward policies, or supporting organizations working for systemic change, every step counts.
Maybe you are an early adopter and you take environmental action purposefully and regularly. Maybe not. I believe we can all agree that taking environmental action needs to happen if we want to see change in the quality of our environment. https://Earthday.org has posted quite a few small actions that can be taken on your own if you lack the time or capacity to join a larger event in your area. I encourage you to take a look at the list and pick a few to do - your actions matter.
• Share a post or climate facts on social media
• Read a book about climate solutions

Where is your organic waste going?
In 2018 Ontario had a plan to keep food and organic waste out of landfills.
Now, nearly eight years after the fact, the challenge stays and the plan needs some action.
More than 60% of Ontario’s food waste continues to end up in landfill, where it breaks down and produces methane — one of the most harmful greenhouse gases affecting our environment.
The opportunity remains significant. While across Ontario, municipalities diverted 1.2 million tonnes of organic waste in 2021, showing that when collection and diversion systems are in place, meaningful progress is possible.
For businesses, and multi-residential units, food waste is one of the most practical areas to improve sustainability performance. Every tonne diverted helps reduce landfill pressure, lower emissions, and create new value through composting, soil restoration, and renewable energy recovery.
At Davidson Environmental, we help organizations transform food waste from a disposal issue into a resource solution through effective organics diversion programs tailored to commercial, industrial and multi-residential operations.

30 Years of Serving Our Community
On February 1st, 2026, Davidson Environmental celebrated 30 years of service in South and Southwestern Ontario.
For three decades, we’ve had the privilege of working with local businesses and institutions to keep organic waste out of landfills and protect the environment we all share.
This milestone belongs to our community — the customers who trust us, the team members who show up every day committed to service and safety, and the partners who believe that small daily actions create lasting environmental change.
Together, we’ve helped reduce landfill waste, lower methane emissions, and support renewable energy right here in Ontario.
We are incredibly grateful for 30 years of support — and excited to continue serving our region for many more to come.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
We welcome comments

On March 28, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM, businesses and communities around the world will pause for Earth Hour—switching off non-essential lights to shine a light on something bigger.

It’s a simple act.
But it carries meaning far beyond the hour.

Because Earth Hour isn’t just about darkness—
it’s about awareness, responsibility, and possibility.

This Earth Hour, set the reminder.
Flip the switch.
Join millions around the world in one shared moment of reflection.

And when the lights come back on, carry that intention forward.

Because the real opportunity isn’t just in what happens during that hour—
it’s in the choices that follow.

At Davidson Environmental, we see that shift happening every day—businesses rethinking waste, finding value in what was once discarded, and contributing to solutions like renewable energy through organic diversion.

If that’s a path you’re beginning to explore, it’s a conversation worth having.

Let’s make this the biggest hour for Earth—
and a turning point toward something better.

Global Recycling Day 🌍

When we think about the world’s most essential resources, six often come to mind—water, air, oil, natural gas, coal, and minerals. They shape our lives, fuel our economies, and sustain our communities. But they are finite—and the way we use them today matters for tomorrow.

Here’s the encouraging truth: we have a powerful opportunity in our hands.

Recycling isn’t just a system—it’s a solution. It’s our “Seventh Resource.” A way to extend what we already have, reduce waste, and rethink how we value materials.

Every bottle, every can, every sheet of paper holds potential for a second life—and a lighter impact on our planet.

Aluminum can be recycled endlessly, using up to 95% less energy than producing it new.

Glass can be reused again and again without losing quality.

Paper can be given new life multiple times before its journey ends.

Even plastics, while more limited, can still be transformed into useful new products.

And then there’s organics—often overlooked, but incredibly powerful.

When food and organic materials are diverted from landfill, they don’t become waste—they become renewal. Returned to the earth through composting or transformed into energy, they help restore our soils, protect our air and water, and give back to the very systems that sustain us.

The opportunity is clear: what we choose to recycle and divert today becomes the resource we rely on tomorrow.

This Global Recycling Day, let’s see waste differently—not as something to discard, but as something to reimagine. Together, we can turn everyday actions into lasting impact. ♻️✨
