The Powell Park gazebo has been standing in the heart of Port Dover for decades, quietly doing what it does best, bringing people together. It’s one of those landmarks that doesn’t shout for attention, yet somehow becomes the backdrop to a thousand memories.

The original gazebo dates back many decades, built as a community gathering point when Powell Park was already becoming the town’s social centre. Over the years it has been repaired, repainted, and lovingly maintained, but its purpose has never changed: a place for music, celebration, and community life.

It’s Been Very Instrumental Over the Years . . .
Summer Concerts: For generations, families have brought lawn chairs and blankets to listen to live bands on warm evenings.
Community Events: Strawberry socials, fundraisers, holiday gatherings, and civic celebrations have all used the gazebo as their anchor.
Youth Performances: School bands, choirs, and young musicians have taken their first brave steps into performing right here.
Cultural Showcases: Folk groups, jazz ensembles, brass bands, and local singer‑songwriters have all filled the park with sound.
A Meeting Place: Whether it’s friends catching up, couples strolling through, or visitors discovering Port Dover for the first time, the gazebo has always been a natural stopping point.

It’s not just a structure, it’s a stage for the town’s heartbeat.

While the lineup has changed with the decades, Powell Park has hosted many musicians and groups:
Local favourites like The Simcoe Lions Brass Band
Folk and acoustic performers during summer festivals
Jazz nights and blues evenings
Community choirs and holiday carolers
Tribute acts and travelling small‑town touring groups
Young musicians who later became well‑known in Norfolk County’s music scene

If you’ve lived here long enough, you’ve probably heard everything from fiddles to flutes, guitars to gospel, brass to bluegrass.

Powell Park’s gazebo has been home to countless concerts and community moments. Have you ever attended a show here? And what did you think of the experience?

Let's hear your memories, stories, and that warm sense of shared Norfolk pride we all share and love.
