Join me as I run an errand for one of my senior clients 👵 Walmart Canada

As an elder concierge, I help perform daily tasks that make life easier.

🛒Sometimes ordering grocery delivery from a regular service doesn’t really meet your needs and a more personal touch is required.

🏥My client had a hospital stay and was returning home, and would not be able to meet a delivery person at the door.

Here’s how I served my client:

✅Picked up groceries
✅Delivered everything to her home
✅Put everything away in the fridge and pantry

When she was released, everything was available for her, to feel comfortable and reduce stress during her recovery❤️.

Common items I like to buy:

🍎Soft foods like apple sauce and jello for those with difficulty with chewing/swallowing and tooth sensitivity. Low sugar/sugar-free options are good for those watching their blood sugar.

🧃UTI preventitive drinks like cranberry juice, especially if they are using incontinence products.

☕️Essentials like milk and tea (decaf is a good option).

💪Easy high protein foods like cottage cheese to help restore strength

Where do you find organizing supplies?

Honestly, a variety of different places, I don’t exclusively shop at one store.

Here are some of my favourites:
Costco Canada
Home Depot
Canadian Tire
Lowes
Dollarama
Dollar Tree
Oomomo

I will even go outside the box to speciality stores like restaurant and industrial suppliers to find that perfect container.

Princess Auto
Uline
Chef Depot

Here’s a tour of my favourite aisle at Costco.

Like the rest of Costco’s product offering there’s a curated selection of storage solutions. You won’t find ever imaginable size, but they have a number of basic and heavy duty items that are good quality and usually offered for a good price. Their inventory does have high turnover, so I recommend buying slightly more containers than you need for your project and return the excess once the space is organized to avoid disappointment.

👆Remember that sourcing storage solutions should happen when the decluttering process is complete.

5 myths about working with a professional organizer…

❌We’re going to make you throw out everything in your house.
✅We’re coming into your home home and dealing with your items, we help coach you but the decision is always yours.

❌Our houses are perfect all the time
✅Thats not always the case, in fact we often bring in our organizer friends when we need a little help ourselves.

❌We’re silently judging you.
✅We know that real life happens and are compassionate

❌We’re fancy cleaners.
✅We’re not cleaners but often work in tandem. We specialize in decluttering which often makes cleaning easier after.

❌We’re a luxury service and not affordable.
✅There are organizers of all different skill levels and specialties. If budget is a concern we can help you prioritize the spaces in your home that will make the most impact and spread out sessions.

Sometimes getting it done 💪 is better than getting it perfect ✨

A coworker of mine used to have a sign on her desk that said done is better than perfect. This used to really annoy me - I wanted things to be done AND perfect‼️

Wisdom has taught me that having a functional space is more important than perfection ❤️

Perfection will never be fully achieved. If we think of our homes 🏠 as several iterations of making it “better” rather than achieving perfection, it’s a much less stressful way to live. ☺️

After some decluttering (which is the first step of organizing), I really needed to make better use of the vertical space in my closet 👚and my kitchen cupboard🍷

I took the shelves from my existing systems to The Home Depot Canada, bought a long shelf panel and got it cut to size 🪚. For $30, I got three shelves and made a drastic improvement to my space. I didn’t need to measure anything or use any tools. The staff were super helpful.

Now, the shelves in the closet don’t match my 20 year old ClosetMaid | Home Organization system, (mostly you can find white, millennial grey and some black ones) but that’s okay because I’ve made that space way more functional for me today.

I may decide to replace the system as my needs evolve in the future, but for now, we got it done 💪.

How have gotten things “done” in your own home?

What’s the secret to Aging Well 🤔?

I asked Girlie Hart from Modern Angels Healthcare what she’s consistently seen working in healthcare as the reason people lead vibrant and full lives in their later years.

There are two things:

1️⃣Connection ❤️
2️⃣Purpose 💫

What does this look like practically?

✅Connection means engaging with other people like family, friends and neighbours.

If you don’t have anyone living close by or have difficulty leaving the house a phone call ☎️can be uplifting.

Try going out to community events, most people are in a good mood and open to chatting 🗣️.

Even a pleasant interaction while getting your groceries 🛒or just being around others can help break the isolation cycle.

✅Purpose means having a focus and reason to get out of bed each day. It may change over time, but it’s important for it to exist.

Helping others by sharing your wisdom, volunteering 🏘️in the community, working on a creative project 🎨, or finishing tasks around the home 🔨 can give purpose to your day and meaning to your life.
