In case you missed it, there's a lot happening at this week with the Dark Bridges Film Festival! .oliver_ will be back in town this Friday for a screening of LOWLIFES -- a full length horror film directed by Mitch & that has been getting a ton of positive buzz. Super proud of Mitch for following his dreams and making things happen in the short period of time since we did The Druid's Hand in 2021. There will be a Q&A after the film with Mitch, Tesh and as well, so please consider coming out to show some support.

Thursday night you can also catch the premiere of , a new Sask-made short horror film directed by and made with love by several other people that were involved in TDH. It's fantastic to see everyone continue to work together and both of these films are incredibly fun projects. Check out The Broadway Theatre website for ticket info and let's pack the place this Thursday and Friday!

We are thrilled to share that we have been awarded Best Special FX at the 2022 Portland Horror Film Festival!

We did not make it easy on ourselves from the jump in terms of special FX sequences. Within our 12-minute short film we managed to include a full body makeup, a day to night transition, 180-degree wrist snap, a face degloving, dozens of self igniting candles, a lobotomy, smoke, embers and a gigantic fire sequence at the climax of the film; 90% of which was done practically with assistance from our editor Jason Hamill and some additional VFX work by Benham Salimy. There aren’t enough things that could be said about our editor Jason who handled as much of this workload as he could, only passing off a few moments to other special FX artists.

There are a few other people to thank for this one as well, beginning first with our Key Make Up Artist Kseniah Pidskalny and our Make Up Assistant’s Taegen O’Bertos and Aaron Savas. It’s amazing how many people think that our creatures’ movements and bright glowing eyes were digital when in reality, it was just killer makeup and a stellar performance from Gabrielle Buchholz.

Laura Crossman led our art department and helped establish the beautiful and grim tone that we were going for, from wardrobe, props, set design and even special FX! Laura, Jeff Drake and Heather Adrian helped us build bodies for burning and hanging, and they helped us achieve the “coughing up ashes and embers effect” that seems to have left an impression on our audience!

We would also like to thank our stunt coordinator Ed Mendez, for supervising our fire stunts and providing us with various accelerants that gave our burning sequence the ferocity we were looking for.

Orchestrating these sequences took a lot of coordination and team work and we are so honoured to be able to share this award with everyone on our team who made this possible.

When you say you want to pursue art in Saskatchewan, many people will push you down or try to convince you to pursue something else, something more viable. But, that hasn’t stopped artists from this province from pursuing their crafts with fervour and reaching amazing heights.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to check out The Druid’s Hand over the weekend.

This film was made with ambition that exceeded our budget - which we ultimately pulled off thanks to the Village of Alvena and a committed crew; most of whom contributed their time and skill sets as favours to this project.

Our film was viewed over 1400 times on the Saskatchewan Film Pool YouTube channel in the 36 hours it was available. We received a ton of positive feedback and took home the BEST TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT award for the cinematography created by Dylan Hryciuk () . Dylan’s work ethic, collaborative spirit, masterful attention to detail and lighting was instrumental in the success of this film. We are thrilled to have been able to be a part of Dylan’s ever-growing filmography and to honour him with this award.
