Beginners Guide to The Right Foot Classes
Footwear
Many people enter Ballroom Dancing thinking they need to buy a specific type of shoe. For our classes, if your shoe is comfortable, clean (no outdoor shoes please), and doesn't leave marks on the floor, it doesn't matter if it's a sneaker or a fancy dance shoe. Typically, it is suggested that you wear to class the type of shoe that you are most l
ikely to wear to a dance event. This is especially important if you plan to wear any type of heel. Learning a pattern in flats is one thing; doing the same pattern in heels changes many things, including your center of balance. The most important thing is that you are comfortable in your shoes. THEY MUST BE CLEAN – NO TINY PEBBLES OR WET SOLES AS THIS CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS
Dress code
Our classes are extremely informal; there is no dress code other than you need to come in clothing and have clean footwear for the dance floor. As the class can be vigorous at times, depending on the dance, loose, comfortable clothing is recommended. There's no need to dress in your fanciest wear. If you get hot when walking, it is recommended to dress in layers. Partners
You will need a partner. This should be a person that you expect to dance with socially. It can be your significant other, your friend, a parent – the relationship is unimportant. The most important thing is that one of the partners is ALWAYS DANCING THE SAME ROLE. So, if you would like to sign up with your friend, decide which of you will LEAD, and which will FOLLOW, and stick to that. What You Will Learn
This class is designed for absolute Beginners. This makes it suitable for anyone that has never danced a single step, or for anyone that hasn’t danced in a long time. We move at the pace of the class and teach one dance at a time. This means you will learn all of one type of dance (at the beginner level) before we move on to the next style. The most popular class is the Event Basics class where you will learn 3 dances that are commonly danced at weddings, bars, and other social events. The dances we will cover are Cha Cha, Waltz, and Rumba. We teach American Social dancing, not choreography and you will not have to perform at the end! Last Notes
Bring a water bottle to class. Also bring a recording device to capture what you have learned!
