Today, September 23. is your final day to submit your artwork to Figureworks® Smalls Works 2022.

The past few years have been extraordinary. Figureworks, like all live exhibitions, was forced into hiatus during COVID-19 social distancing restrictions. During this time, the gig and arts economies suffered tremendously, with some organizations shifting their business offerings, and others shuttering their doors.

Thankfully, after three years, we are back, live! With a change in venue and a slight 'twist' on our traditional juried exhibition, we are excited to pick up the baton with this vibrant art prize and continue on our path to cultivate and exhibit art of the human form.

After the financial impact of the pandemic, Figureworks® Small Works 2022 has smaller submission dimensions. Why? In hopes that the submission would cost less to produce and frame. We all need a bit of a break! And to assist, Wallack's Art Supplies & Framing and Figureworks Prize takes no commission on works sold - 100% goes to the artist.

Figureworks 2022 Call for Artists

Figureworks® is calling artists in all media to submit to the 11th annual juried Figureworks Prize and award show. The submission deadline is September 23, 2022.

Figureworks® is an annual juried art prize and celebration of the art of the human form held in Ottawa, Ontario. We accept figurative works in all media. The show is open to all living artists working in all mediums who wish to submit recent works that represent the human form or parts thereof.

Small Works is the theme. This year, we are giving a great platform to smaller works in a new, smaller venue. Further, we made the scope of the competition more regional and are accepting artworks from the great pool of artists living in Canada.

Why enter?
Figureworks® is more than an annual prize; it is a community of artists passionate about the human figure. Each year, we come together to celebrate the figure through the Figureworks® Prize. Artists will have their work reviewed by our professional jury and the opportunity to win cash prizes.

Those in the show will have their work displayed in a highly-respected Ottawa art gallery and published on the Figureworks® website. Artists may also sell their works at the show should they choose. Note that Figureworks® and the venue takes no commission on sales – all sales go directly to the artists.

Who can enter?
Figureworks® 2022 invites the participation of Canadian artists by restricting submissions to those within Canada, whether resident or non-resident, including international students studying at a post-secondary institution.

We encourage submissions from all artists and recognize that there are many communities of artistic creation, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit, Black, people of colour, immigrants, homeless, and 2SLGBTQ+ artists, as well as artists with disabilities.

We are proud to acknowledge Wallack’s and Wallack Galleries as the 2022 Figureworks® Presenting Partner. Wallack’s has a strong tradition of supporting the arts, supplying professional art supplies through their stores, and representing artists through their gallery.
