THURSDAY - This class is FUNDAMENTAL for Musical Theatre! You can dance - you can sing - BUT are you strong enough to do both at the same time? Or maybe you didn't start Studio Dance when you were THREE, and want to be in an environment where you can learn and progress at your skill rate, with older students.

Build the strength, stamina, and technique needed to become a stronger, more confident dancer! Jump higher and get strong! This class combines focused dance technique with conditioning exercises designed to improve core strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and endurance. Students will develop the physical foundation needed to execute choreography with greater control, power, and consistency—while building the stamina to perform at their best from beginning to end.

LEARN MORE ABOUT "MISS ASHLEY"

Ashley Miller comes from an extensive background of education and experience in both music performance, music therapy, and dance. She earned a Certificate in Music Therapy from Acadia University, a Master's Degree in Music from The University of New Mexico and a Bachelor's Degree from The University of Montana.

When not teaching voice lessons, and teaching at Cornerstone, you can find her in the office at Maryview School, in her backyard up to her elbows in dirt, or crocheting and reading her stories.

Jeannette Manser graduated with a music diploma from Red Deer College back in 2001 with a major in Voice Performance and a minor in Music Merchandising. She has her Royal Conseratory Grade 10 as well, and has taught private voice and guitar lessons for over 15 years before stepping away to work more on youth ministry in Red Deer Catholic Schools.
In 2018, she got back involved with music through Cornerstone teaching seasonal classes along with musically directing for plays: Frozen Jr, Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Annie Jr., and this past year - FROZEN, THE BROADWAY MUSICAL. For the past 3 years, she has been an Academy teacher for Cornerstone. She has so enjoyed this community and is excited to continue teaching for CYT. It's been a true blessing!

For those of you who are new to Cornerstone, we'd like to introduce you to "Miss Melodie" who will be teaching Intro to Dance and Tap Attack on Thursdays.
Melodie Bredo's background is in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development through the University of Alberta, and she is passionate about helping young students develop their skills. She has dance experience in ballet, tap, jazz, as well as technique and strength training.

Melodie has vast teaching and choreography experience with Cornerstone, teaching everything from Prop till you Drop (she is also the Prop Asset Manager for Cornerstone), Dance, and Musical Theatre. Having choreographed a few of our MainStage productions, we are also excited to have her as a featured teaching artist for "Christmas Spectacular" where she will be choreographing one of our big tap numbers.

Find Your Character. Find Your Confidence.
INTRO TO DRAMA

Drama class is active, creative, and often very funny—but underneath all that fun, students are building genuine acting and performance skills.
No experience needed—just a willingness to jump in and try!

Students learn the fundamentals of acting through scenes, theatre games, improvisation, character work, and plenty of time on their feet.
They'll explore stage directions, projection and diction, physicality, facial expression, character choices, memorization, script work, and working as an ensemble. Along the way, they'll learn how actors take words on a page and turn them into believable, entertaining characters onstage.

You Don't Have to Be a Dancer to Start Dancing .

INTRO TO DANCE
Our teachers understand that walking into a dance class can feel intimidating for a beginner. This class is designed to make dance approachable, energetic, and fun while still teaching proper fundamentals.
Students won't just learn a dance—they'll begin learning how to dance.
No dance experience required. Two left feet are welcome.

Musical theatre performers need to be comfortable learning and performing choreography. Intro to Dance gives students the foundation they need to get started.
Students develop coordination, rhythm, balance, flexibility, basic dance vocabulary, musicality, and the ability to learn and remember choreography. They'll work on foundational movement and combinations that prepare them for the kinds of choreography they will encounter in musical theatre.

MAKEUP WORKSHOP (Tuesday - Six week workshop - September 8 - Oct 13 6:30- 7:30)
Discover what happens at the makeup table before the curtain goes up! In this fast-paced, hands-on class, students will step into the role of a theatrical makeup crew member, learning how makeup helps transform actors, communicate character, and tell the story onstage.

Students will work with real theatrical makeup as they learn basic stage makeup, aging, character transformation, bruises and wounds, facial hair, and specialty effects. Along the way, they’ll learn the skills a real makeup crew needs—setting up a makeup station, working safely on other actors, following makeup designs, maintaining continuity from performance to performance, and getting a cast ready on time. This six week class is all about learning by doing.
