**The Yukon Series — a trip that never really ended**
In 2006, Chris and I took six weeks and drove north — up through the Yukon, into the Northwest Territories, all the way to Inuvik, and across into Alaska. We kayaked stretches of the Mackenzie River, camped under skies that never fully went dark, and one afternoon flew above the glaciers of Kluane National Park — mountains stacked on mountains, ice fields folding into rock, a scale of landscape that's hard to describe unless you've seen it from the air.
That trip changed how Chris painted. This series came out of it: the sculptedu, sweeping hillsides in blazing autumn gold and rust, the wide dramatic skies, the rivers cutting silver through the valleys. He was captivated by the way the tundra folded and rolled like fabric, by the tension between the wild colour of the ground and the coolness of glacier and cloud above.
It remains one of the most vivid, alive periods of his work — and one of my favourite memories of our life together. Six weeks, one long road, and a landscape that gave him a whole new way of seeing.
A number of pieces from the Yukon series are available now — link in comments / message me for details.
